United Kingdom 2009 Defender 130 Puma 2.4 HCPU Coniston Green
tdci speedo
i have a 130 2009 2.4
the speedo stopped working and then vehicle reverts to limp mode

it has a tachograph so ive removed that , fitted a new speed sensor and reconnected the wire to back of cluster
there is no speedo still
there is power at the sensor and an earth

so my question is its obviously either not getting drive to sensor or the speedo is failed

if i put a ac fluke ( or scope ) on the wire to cluster preume would get a readinf when driving what should this be ?
and if there is no reading does the drive in box ever fail ?

any help as i need to fix to mot it

My speedo stopped and went into limp mode and it was just a bad connection on the sensor on the back of the transfer box, went to this first as it had had a new clutch fitted not long before.

If you've checked the connection, my guess would be a failed sensor.

Carl,

Have you checked for continuity between the sense wire at the sensor, and speedo cluster, and are you absolutely sure the three wires at the sensor are in the correct order. If you think the 3 pin plug is corroded at these sensor, then it is the same as a stop/tail light plug, which are easily available as well. The sensor is only held in place with an 8mm small bolt and can be removed easily. If you spin the end that goes into the box, you should get some sort of reading between earth and sense wire, I think itโ€™s just a pulse but I might be wrong. Good luck with the fix,
