Wales 2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 DCPU Stornoway Grey
I couldn’t find a suitable ebike rack so made this to fit the 2 inch receiver.
I made it long to keep the pedals outside the tub/minimise risk of scratching the bodywork.

Mr BW I do hear your question and appreciate where it has come from and my honest response is “too long” Whistle

I will consider a warning triangle or similar.

In truth I am thinking of shortening it to put the bike further into the tub. See how it goes > 110 XS Double Cab

If it's less than 1 metre it's legal but may attract unwanted attention and ultimately a moron will run into it and say it's your fault. If it's more than a metre it needs markers.

That's the first one I've seen since fitting mine that came with the dowel pins for alignment, after the previous one I put in wasn't seated right. Amazing how much difference one part makes to how it drives...

Love the bike rack, presumably moving the spare wheel to the arch on either side would let you push the bikes further back in? Another one I'm sure you've already thought of but without any weight on the tailgate it'll bang around like crazy, better taking it off all together or having some check straps to fix it in a slightly lifted position? I've managed to get bikes in mine without a spare in the tub where the fork / frame arch drops over the tailgate, secured down with a strap and it was fine - 26" bike though so I'm guessing that won't work for your e-bikes....

In honesty I didn't use the pins, but having them gave reassurance it was an official part at least Thumbs Up

Yeah moving the spare would give more room but it's hassle and I like the ease/simplicity/speed of sticking the rack in the receiver and away to go.

With the tailgate - you are right. The original plan was to fabricate some stays onto the rack that pick up on the tailgate to hold the lot solid but it didn't quite work out in the end.
I have been thinking about how to secure the tailgate and think a ratchet strap from one eye of the tailgate, under the rack and back up to the other tailgate eye seems the simplest to keep some tension holding the tailgate down

Previously I was opening the tailgate, putting the bike in whole diagonally with the front wheel on the tailgate and strapping the bike down with a ratchet strap. It worked but didn't fill me with confidence so thought I'd make something more secure.

I love the front wheel over the tailgate method, but would be afraid of damaging the paintwork! > 110 XS Double Cab

New Genuine JLR wiper arms and Bosch Aerotwin AR13U wiper blades fitted. Finally the windscreen wipes!

In other news we bought a family wagon to cart around the incoming baby. This means the Defender has been promoted to 'occasional use' rather than daily drive Thumbs Up

Relaying the patio at the moment (don't ask - repointing escalated quickly)

This is the first bit of towing proper weight in the trailer since changing the trailer brake pads. What a difference a braked trailer makes!

I’ve thought about doing similar, but just on the tail gate, not beyond it. But then my spare isn’t inside the back. Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've done this a few times on my twin axle trailer, with the same outcome on the pads coming away from the shoe's, so much better as you found with the new ones fitted. I now service the trailer brakes at least twice a year to keep them A1 Thumbs Up 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Defender has been running great when cold, but developed a rough idle when hot.
Also the injector learn process would not complete which is a sure sign that an injector is on the fritz

I have had this before which turned out to be a defective PF Jones reconditioned injector - refer to my previous post https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic53240-217.html

When cold all injectors read the same resistance (0.8ohms)

So again I ran it until hot then when the rough idle started went through the process of disconnecting each injector in turn:

Unplug injector 1 - engine almost conks out
Unplug injector 2 - no change to idle running
Unplug injector 3 - engine almost conks out
Unplug injector 4 - engine almost conks out

Injector 2 resistance also read way off compared to the others when hot. (I forget the reading now unfortunately)

So injector 2 was a dud.

I ordered another brand new (not reconditioned) Denso injector, fitted it, coded the ECU, got the engine up to temperature and went through the injector learn process…

Once again back to firing on all cylinders

Moral of the story again - don’t waste your time and money on reconditioned injectors Big Cry
First PF Jones reconditioned injector lasted 500 miles. Second one lasted 4000 miles.
Originals did 88,000 and were ok. They were only replaced as a preventative measure. What a mistake Laughing

Expensive error. Injectors 1 and 3 left to replace. Will do them next month.
