This headline caught my eye. Norway: Plug-In Car Sales Collapsed By 80% In January 2023
Seems they are going to tax cars based on weight and vat will be applied to EV's over a certain price. Here they are saying that they need 600 gallons A MINUTE of water to quell an EV fire and an average of 25,000 gallons of water to put out a blaze.

The thought of a fire caused by electric car on a ferry is very scary. Do modern ferries have the type of fire fighting equipment to deal with this happening, I doubt it, and with all the vehicles parked so closely together, I imagine it would become an inferno very quickly. I can see other ferry companies following the Norwegian ferry company that has already banned them, but probably not until it’s actually happened, and a ferry has been lost,

I don't remember there being a single EV reported in that fire, it was all down to internal combustion (and a faulty LPG conversion on a Disco started it, as I recall). Imagine if a significant number of the vehicles involved had been EVs!  I imagine it would have taken the structure down.

The best advice I can give your wife is to put the Stilh rechargeable hedge cutter down in the middle of the drive well away from your defender if she thinks the battery is getting too hot and focus on brushing up the clippings until she is sure it’s cooled down a bit. 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper |

No ships, even the most recently built, have the ablity to fight an EV battery fire. Lithium fires require very specialist equipment to fight and that gear isn’t a requirement onboard, specialist expert firefighters have to be called in if there is an EV fire onboard. This is a huge concern in nautical circles in general and not just the ferry sector for 2-3 years now. DfT and at least one of the professional maritime bodies is investigating firefighting lithium battery fires and EV fires in particular. You may recall the huge fire on a car carrier last year - it was carrying a large number of Porsche Taycans and VW EVs - that fire lead to the total loss of the vessel south west of the Azores Islands. I’m a retired ship’s Master/ Captain on very large containerships where we were also carrying privately shipped EVs in containers. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

That really does sound very worrying. I do remember the ship last year. At some stage it is almost inevitable that an EV fire will start on a ferry, just hope I’m not on it at the time. I always consider ferries to be a safe mode of transport, but I’m beginning to wonder. 🤔 Ashby Andy |
