Changing doors
Is it possible to fit 2007 onwards Puma doors to a 90 300 tdi Defender? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali
2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu
2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai

Agreeded, that is why I am thinking of doing it to my daughter's 300 tdi 90. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Yes, they are a straight swap, although you may want to use period door handles and locks to retain the key types. I fitted them to my old 200tdi:

Nice and thank you for the link. It would be hard now since the Puma has been out of production for sometime to get a good set of used doors. Just wondered if any of the existing fittings, like glass, window mechanism (manual) etc could be reused with the Puma doors? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

They are a heavier, thicker door and all steel. Fit better and draught free. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

That’s not a bad option for a fully built up door, although all the parts inside will be aftermarket. I note they offer the choice of genuine for the latch, as the aftermarket ones of those are notoriously bad.

As above, heavier and stiffer. All steel so they don’t suffer from bimetallic corrosion. And available with electric windows and central locking as standard. Only downside is the cost.

Never on any account use an aftermarket latch, learned that the hard way when it failed after a month. The build standards between the two are worth the cost of the OEM latches.

One of the things that was putting me off doing this, (apart from the cost Laughing ) was the number of items involved to get the complete door fitted out. Just making sure you have everything would be a logistical nightmare! The complete unit does seem a more convenient route. I note your comment about the use of after market non genuine fittings. Over the years when things have been repaired/replaced on my doors it is usually after market items that have been fitted and things have worked as they should. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I fitted 4 of the SP4x4 galvanised frame doors with zintec steel skin to my Td5 DCPU a few years back and reused the old innards. There's a high probability that you'll need to buy new door handles though because the fixing screws seize in the nutserts and break free of the plastic handle moulding. It's also worth renewing all the window rubbers and seals.

The replacement doors are still in perfect condition and I'd do the same again on another Defender if necessary.
