I had mine done at 2years and 6000miles - i intend to keep the car
Ive had many modern new cars and vans that require 2 yr intervals so it doesnt scare me and several land rovers. Although in fairness ive hit mile more than age. I knew a taxi driver once that swore by cheap oil changes ever few months. I remember 200/300 tdi 6k services and i would do all fluids So it doesnt hurt to do it, but isnt necessary Mike |

I'm keen to change the oil on my P400 as well. It's 12.5 months old and has just under 6000 miles so almost perfect timing and having watched Umbertob's excellent video I am comfortable with doing it myself.
My concern, however, is EXACTLY which oil to use? I have entered my registration on several sites such as Halfords but they always say no oil found. The Land Rover owner site says "SAE 0W-20 meeting Jaguar Land Rover specification STJLR.03.5006" I have Googled "STJLR.03.5006 0W-20" which comes back with a few options but there's C5, E C5, EC. Defendit.. on this very post shows EC in his picture which is what the Castrol website says too but that is non-existent in the UK although I did find a German seller on eBay. Does it have to be EC? I suppose I could just call my dealer and buy it from there but where's the fun in that?! |

The classic "which oil" dilemma
Gone are the days when it was either Castrol GTX "Liquid Engineering" Or Duckhams Hypergrade "The engine's choice" Remember the adverts? "lf a car could choose its own oil, it couldn't choose a better oil than Duckhams Hypergrade....the engine's choice....." Anyhow, these days it's a nightmare, even trying to find the right oil for my TD5, low ash, low SAPS, PD etc Castrol doesn't list an oil for the L663 but Duckhams recommends QXR 0w/30 for the lngenium 3.0 Last edited by lightning on 19th Oct 2024 8:13am. P300 - MY 2022
I changed the oil after 3000 km and 15000 and 34000 although the manual recommends replacement every 34,000, the dealer says every 17,000... _______ L663 P300 MY2022 FUJI WHITE PL KRK |

l am not sure it's necessary at 3,000 but it won't do any harm, so if you want to then why not.
Gone are the days when an engine needed it's oil changed after 1,000 miles |

Yes ,it will harm the environment and your wallet.
First oil change at 10K mls or 15000 km is fine. After that easy 17,5K mls or 25000 km., no problem. My oil change if provided by myself with original oil costs around £ 110 or € 125,- Dealer asked € 390,- ( if I removed the undershield package before and installed it back after ) No Mud flaps for my 90.! ----------------------------------------- P300 S MY21 on air, adv.+ offroad pack, DRL+fog, Dinamica Suedecloth + Ebony headliner/Cross Beam- Many Mods.. |

€390 is a bit of a rip off as the dealer will suck the oil out and never take off the undertray.
l bet the job takes under one hour. |

My dealer in West London want £285 to do an oil change and Marshall Abingdon say £270.
If anyone can answer my question about where you can get Castrol EC 0w-20 or if I can use E C5 0w-20 then I'll do it myself! |
