Swapped out the transfer box today so the old girl is back on road.

Wasn’t too bad, took about four or five hours with the help of my Dad. Couldn’t get diff lock initially but realised I’d managed to refit the linkage backwards - not even sure how that was possible!

Ashcroft output shaft still looking mint after all this time

For a while now my front heated windscreen has been a bit intermittent.

Bridging pins 4 and 8 of the timer relay got it working so it seemed to be a problem with the timer relay PRC6796.

On closer inspection I found that the solder joint between one of the pins and the PCB had cracked and wasn’t making connection.

After reflowing the solder joint the system came back to life so to prevent this happening again I epoxied the back of the pins for a bit of extra support

Do they stop your wife from slamming the door shut with the seatbelt stuck in the lock?

My passenger side seatbelt is more worn than the driver side. Only on a defender..

Did you go for an ATB in the center diff?

Nothing on earth is going to stop that, my wife blames the Defender everytime. I'm tempted to charger her £1 every time so it goes into the new seat belt fund... Esp as I spent a fair amount on new ones for the last MOT.

I did consider it, but given the £1200 cost for an ashcroft LT230 plus the £500 I spent rebuilding it two and a half years ago I couldn't stomach the further £400 odd for an ATB - particularly as 99.99% of my driving is on road.

On the rare occasions I find myself in wheelspin/planet gears friction welding to cross pin conditions (snow or off road) I am happy to shift into diff lock.

ATB's in the axles perhaps in future, but open/locked diff in the transfer box is sufficient for my purposes

Nah, couldn't justify it for a road queen! > 110 XS Double Cab

Ah fair, the money pit bites us all hard, I’ve been debating my options if I rebuild.

New brake shoes on ifor today. Nice straightforward job for a change!
The pad material had delaminated on all four shoes. The trailer was effectively unbraked so towing any weight was a bit sketchy!

Engine has been showing typical signs of a failing VCV recently - flat spot on acceleration, general laziness and lack of power.

It was no wonder when I removed the old VCV to find it in two parts!

New genuine DENSO unit fitted and what a transformation, it's a pleasure to drive again!!
