United Kingdom 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Zermatt Silver
First TD5 off the production line
I just bought a 1998 TD5 that seems to have been a factory car.

Although I thought I was buying a Frankenstein - originally a 300tdi turned into a TD5 - it actually turns out the car was registered in Aug 1998, as a TD5 (VIN confirmed) under ref S840BDU which seems to be factory/press car reg for that year (DU being where the factory was registered… Coventry area code).
So that supposedly Frankenstein, might actually be a very special car.

I am trying to find out the production sequence of the first TD5’s coming out of LR production line. Would anyone known how I could find out what was the VIN of the first TD5 off the line so I can see what number mine was?

Thanks

The parts catalogue lists Td5s starting from XA159807 - those digits being the last 8 of the VIN. That would be a start Smile  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Intriguing...

In previous decades it was known for LR to offer a "power upgrade" to customers whereby they could have the previous power plant iteration removed and the newer version put in. Could be that yours was upgraded in this way. Possibly...

Only with the 200Tdi into previous 4cyls.

It wasn’t offered with the Td5.

As identified in the other thread, the whole Defender is Td5, not just the engine.

The VIN is XA (1999 model year = intro of Td5) and states the Td5 engine fitted, so it’s a genuine Td5. Just a very very early - possibly pre-production - one.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

@ Sicastle that’s terrific. Do you mind sharing your VIN sequence ? Mine is XA1551xx

I have also signed up to the CVC register group on FB hopefully they can shed some light there

Does yo-yos have all the optional extras as well. Mines carpeted inside front and back with the weather indicator at the top that always leaks 😂

Yes it has everything.

Carpets throughout, roof rack, ladder, snorkel, rear flood light, off road headlights on the front grille, spotlights on the roof rack, winch on special winch bumper, impact bullbar on the bumper, 4 dicky seats in the back, air con, upgraded wheels etc etc… all equipment is original Land Rover stuff !

That thing was ready to take on any overland expedition you could think of lol

I am taking most of the stuff down (sacrilege I know) but keeping in the shed as they are parts of the cars heritage…

I am still struggling to find the VIN of the first ever TD5… hoping I am not to far behind Smile
