My Puma started losing power from low revs. 2 or 3 days ago, when flooring it would slowly start to pull -- lifted the bonnet today and found this Shocked [

There is black soot everywhere - anyone tried similar. Will try to fix the cables - anyone think anything else could have been damaged.

Ahh - sorry - it is the plug on the back of the turbo. I do not know what could have caused the cable to end up like that 88 Ser. 3 1980 -sold

And to correct my question - could the cut cable cause pressure in the turbo to blow a gasket or something ? 88 Ser. 3 1980 -sold

I will take the shield off and check everything tonight - the gasket between the manifold and turbo was changed a month ago with a one piece thick copper - something. I will report back when the car - hopefully - is running perfect again. 88 Ser. 3 1980 -sold

Okay - this is probably a stupid idea but could it be mice? Several members here have had serious problems with the little Censored at this time of year Shocked
Not sure how cutting the wires could cause the soot though Confused Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

About to change the two orange wires - they seem to be Cut by the ring they are wrapped around - why is that ring there? Some sort of metal (magnetic). Regards Crj 88 Ser. 3 1980 -sold

Some sort of EM shielding (from the blue ones)? Perhaps someone can figure out what all those wires do.
At least I'm keeping this at the top of "New Posts" Wink Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Other than the turbo check the manifold, I had a crack in the exhaust manifold that caused black soot to cover the engine and underside of the bonnet. 2012 Fuji White 110 Flattened

I have changed a length of the two orange wires - they were in pretty bad shape - and the car runs near perfect again. Could not find the location of the exhaust leak - but cleaned the engine and will look again tomorrow.

That is the Turbo modulator harness and the ring is the ferrite fuse. There is a service bulletin on the Modulator harness. Who fitted the annealed copper gasket?

Hi Brian. That explains a lot - was wondering why the wiring had been cut/altered. The car is running again - I fitted the ferrite ring again - but I did not do any of the ign. on off as described in the bulletin - just started the car and drove off - hopefully it doesn´t cause any harm . The Copper gasket was fitted by my local Indy.

Regards

Great reply! To satisfy my eternal curiosity, please can you tell me what a ferrite fuse does?
Cheers

Basically, the Ferrite fuse interacts directly with unwanted high-frequency RF energy and dissipates it effectively while allowing data signals to pass unimpeded along the harness to the EMS.
