Little update. Drove over 200 miles yesterday towing a large jet ski. No clutch or gear change issues. I’ve covered nearly 2000 miles scince it first appeared. Still hoping to get to October half term before I open it up. Interestingly I suspected it was temp related and now it a little cooler it seems to be behaving much better

Wyvern - I’ve had the clutch done on mine last week, now have the Transit 4x4 clutch in and I like it.
I note that with yours the spigot / pilot bearing was shot.

On mine it was the springs on the drive plate that had let go, however, the engineer left the removed parts in the back for me to have a look at and the spigot bearing was replaced.
The old one that was taken out on mine didn’t look to be in a great shape either.

Interestingly like many others have experienced the clutch friction plate it’s self was no where near worn out, I’d say 50% worn on mine and the springs being a failure point on LR’s clutch offering seems to be incredibly common. No Guts, No Glory.

Does anybody have the part no for the correct 4x4 transit clutch
Is a matching slave cylinder required or is the Land Rover one used?

Yes!!! I'm with Blackwolf

here in Italy (www.africaland.it) after my initial installation (yes I was the first!), we have now fitted it in at least 50 vehicles and they are all very satisfied.
Some have already passed 100,000 km without any new noise or vibration.
It is very sturdy and massive, much more so than other parallel brands that offer reinforced/uprated kits

Here the shopping list:

MASTER CLUTCH PUMP:
- sachs P/N 6 284 600 602
- or Land Rover P/N STC500100

TRANSIT 4x4 CLUTCH KIT (you can buy it from a Ford Dealer or https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/search?keyword=3+000+950+727):
-Sachs P/N 3 000 950 727

SLAVE ASSY:
- LR068979 SLAVE (3)
- LR068981 ADAPTOR (1)
- LR068982 CONTROL VALVE (4)

Sachs 3 000 950 727 KIT is equivalent for Ford P/N:

Done a few miles on the new Transit 4x4 clutch now and it’s bedded in well.
I’m very pleased with it, it seems a better clutch to me.

It’s not heavier in fact it’s smoother, and feels more solid.
Of course it’s hard to say and placebo affect can be applicable but it’s different to LR’s offering and I do like it out of the workshop.

My biggest concern with LR’s offering is the springs, twice they were in bad shape.
The second time around they were the cause of the failure on the second clutch.

Bearing in mind mine doesn’t tow anything more than a tonne, and I rarely go off road except maybe a couple of gentle greenlanes a handful of times a year.

Many thanks to Dgardel for being the trailblazer and Blackwolf for subsequently then recommending it also.
On mine due to age, I’m glad I replaced the master cylinder on mine as well.
Which was a Genuine one I chose, but there are a lot of options out there as well.
The Gen MC lasted 88k and 14 years or however long it was so I can’t complain at that!

Thought some of you may appreciate the update, and of course it fitted in no problem at all when being fitted in the workshop.
Thumbs Up No Guts, No Glory.

As with Steve,
my new LOF clutch has bedded in and is going great - about 6k miles so far. Its a little bit noisy when in neutral and on tick over, but the rattle goes when the peddle is depressed
It took a couple of goes to get the housings oil tight - so had to show the mechanics the info from the site on where to place the little blobs of sealant on the gasket before closing up - since then no issues ! (they should have listened to me the first time !)

The LOF clutch feels the same as the previous original clutch and the new Ashcroft drive shaft seems to be more positive on acceleration. But I don’t tend to do fast pull aways with all the camper stuff on the back !
