I sold my 1996 TDi300 90 County in September in 3 days and got exactly what I was asking for it. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

I'd imagine that the business market for 2nd hand Defenders is pretty small these days, so I suspect the fact that the VAT is reclaimable on yours isn't particularly useful, unfortunately. My 110 is not dissimilar to yours and if I was to advertise it then I'd be hoping for around the 30k mark, but the market is fickle and the hype around them has faded somewhat now that the new one is becoming more available. With restrictions on diesels springing up i every other city i would be hesitant to look at diesel vehicles going forward. Especially a defender which i'm expecting most will soon rapidly depreciate as the areas they can go become restricted. I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/

I think we might begin to see the asking price for a used Defender begin to come down a bit. You do not say what your asking price was/is, but since LRA says he wouldn't sell his for less than £30k I will use £40k as the threshold.
For Defenders sold on eBay UK and MY 2003-2016: Price Vs Model ![]() Click image to enlarge Price Vs Model Year ![]() Click image to enlarge Date Vs Price ![]() Click image to enlarge Data doesn't lie... ![]() The average selling price is a smidge over £15k and if you take the threshold at 25k (removing the two outliers)... then the average drops to a smidge below £14k. Defender 90's are selling between £7-25k, but the majority are below £17k. Defender 110's between £7-35k, but the majority are below £23k. Not surprisingly or maybe surprisingly all the sales of Defenders occur in the first half of the month. This obviously does not take in to account mileage or condition. Interesting though. |

I suspect if it were a 90 it would have sold quicker.
32k + vat is still strong money for a small business to tie up on one asset at the present time unless said owner really really wants a Defender and really appreciates your efforts on your's as opposed to one thats 10k less but a in a far worse state. |

Businesses are usually sensible and need to make a return on a vehicle. People buying a £7k toy are not the people that will be affected by the current fiscal environment!

It’s still the case that folks might fall into the inflated price trap (on pretty much everything) but not quite as likely as it was.

Depending on company type / ownership etc you may be better off buying it from the company yourself at the book value (presumably considerably less than the £32k as it will be depreciating in the books every year) and paying the VAT yourself. If you sell it through the business for more than the book value, you'll pay tax on the profits anyway.
You'll then be able to sell it privately cheaper without actually losing any money... |

HMRC guidance is pretty clear when it comes to disposal of assets to 'connected' persons at less than market value. It is the market value, not the book or sale price (if lower) which is to be used to determine VAT liability and and any resultant tax liability to the business. Could be viewed as tax avoidance otherwise. Vat man isnt daft and wouldn't take kindly.to being done out of £5k vat and potentially similar amount of corporation tax to hmrc. https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/v...atval07300 https://mileiq.com/blog-en-gb/selling-busi...ble-income ![]() |

Many thanks for the feedback. And I've taken onboard the advice and comments and adjusted my price accordingly.
I need the 110 gone sooner rather than later. It's now priced at £32K incl VAT, which comes in at £26500 + VAT Lets hope someone is in need of a nice 110 with some nice additions. 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |
