I would start with the switch itself, mounted on the side of the handbrake lever. You can see it after pulling off a bit the handbrake boot. Check that it is making a good contact to earth with the handbrake on. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

My shiny new switch arrived so i thought id nip out and fit it, will only take 5 mins right?
Who at landrover thought it would be funny to put the screw heads on the inside of the handbrake? On opening my shiny new switch i find out its backwards so it wont fit. Looks like you get left hand a right hand drive swictes. Could someone confirm the right hand drive part number for a handbrake switch please, this is what i mean by my new switch being 'backwards', new part on the left exiting broken part on the right: Click image to enlarge |

never removed the switch, but possible to mount 'up side down'? or the wire will foul? Or something else? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

the original connector was to long to fit the switch upside down so i ended up cutting it off and replacing it with a much shorter spade connector, all fitted and i now have a dashboard handbrake light
