They're excellent kit. Which ones did you go for at the rear? The ones that fit over the rear crossmember or the mudflap kit? Darren

Last week the alm module packed in. A replacement was sourced from mdm on here and programmed by a local indy. Whilst trying to get it running the dpf light came on and now won’t go off. Indy has full dealer level diagnostics and is waiting for emailed info from lr to get it to regen. This will be the third attempt fingers crossed
The other defender is built and on the boat according to the dealer. Should pick it up before the end of the month. Only 12 months since ordering. He did say that the wait time for a 90 is now nearly two years. |

Time for the annual service at the end of my six week summer break. All oils this year, diffs, transfer box and gearbox as mileage is now 120,000 alongside the engine oil. The last 20l cube I bought was 69+vat this time was 89+vat. Big increase.
I used my superb oil pump made from a small pressure cooker with a tyre valve inserted. Simply put the oil in, hook the pipe into the correct hole and squeeze the trigger on the air line. 20 seconds to put 2.2l in the gearbox. Click image to enlarge Oil coming out of transfer and main box looked clean but diff oil was dirty and dark from both. Filled with some cheap stuff and dropped them again before putting the millers good stuff in. Brakes have been squealing badly so took a good look. NSF wheel bearing had a touch of movement. Nipping it up has cured the squeal it must have been allowing the disc to fluctuate ever so slightly and therefore squeal. |

Today I think I’ve killed my defender. It appears the oil pump has failed. Happened at 70mph. Switched off and coasted up next off ramp and was recovered to home. More investigation to be done but I think it’s dead
Worst case scenario is a new engine. What is the actual difference between a defender 2.2 and a transit 2.2 as I will be doing the swap and transit motors appear plentiful. |

It has sat for a couple of hours and it will start but won’t move as it hasn’t got any power. Oil light is on. Looks like I need to get it out and do a full rebuild or replace it
Positive outlook is that with advice from the internet (mainly on here) I will get it sorted. I’ve got the spanners and the inclination and I’ll also put a clutch in too. |

After a week of indecision about replacement, swap to a bmw or Merc engine or repair I have decided to remove and strip the failed engine and then decide If I am
Lucky it will be a big end a pump and consumables like gaskets and timing bits. There are lots of places near enough who will regrind a crank etc. I’ll post as many pics and pitfalls here as are appropriate for future reference. I might start this afternoon after attending a remembrance service with my 12 yr old . Here we go several late nights coming up |

There was a recall for the 2.2 oil pump, as I recall. Did your Defender have it done? Perhaps it was a later build and didn't need it.

It had it done before I bought it. I checked as I didn’t believe them and it was dated on paperwork in the pack I was given. The pumps are apparently rubbish though and many transits, Citroen and Peugeot all suffer from the same. Hence the cost of good used 2.2 duratorque blocks and the high costs of recon units. - demand is high

Anybody got a link to engine removal in the workshop manual. I basically want a checklist to make sure I don’t damage anything pulling it out or remove things unnecessarily.
