Your new battery should have come with a small tapered plastic plug it's about 10mm long, and about 7mm at the wide end; either on the handle, terminal protection caps or terminal protection flaps.
Once you have pluged the breather hose into the breather hole in the battery on either left or right side of the battery, the plug then seals the other hole. Zaid-M www.DefencePhotos.com 2014 Defender 110 Utility, 2.2 Puma, Indus Silver Not just transport more like a religion |

Thank you.
Do you mean that both breathers lead to a common chamber for all 6 cells? I have thought that breathing chambers are split in half internally. |

I believe that both vents share a common chamber via a labyrinth type seal, thisd should prevent the loss of liquid, but allow the venting of hydrogen gas.
The only issue is that any acidic vapour may also vent : the other reason for the vent tube/line to expel or remove acid vapours. Zaid-M www.DefencePhotos.com 2014 Defender 110 Utility, 2.2 Puma, Indus Silver Not just transport more like a religion |

Just ensure you have a plug on the opposite side of where the breather tube is connected.
Battery manufacturers make two ports so car manufacturers can use either one. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Thank you all. You were right, it is a single chamber. I still have an old battery and tested it. There is a very little airflow between both openings. Also I found a closing plug on the opposite side. It is flash with the body and I didn’t notice it when I replaced the battery. I removed it now and will install when I am next time by the car.
BTW, I am going to keep old battery as my „plan B“ battery pack in case of any blackouts. I am sure it will be able to keep all family gadgets charged for a looooong time just in case. It is now charged and stored. |

If your going to keep it as a backup battery for charging phones, tablets or other tech, don't forget to charge it occasionaly to keep it topped up, all batteries suffer from "self discharge" so the use of a trickle charger or one of these (https://www.ctek.com/uk/battery-chargers-12v-24v/mxs-10-uk) will keep it ready for use. This one has always stumped me, where do we route the battery breather to? I can't seem to find the opening you guys are referring to.
My truck is a LHD one if it matters any. Photos and / or diagrams appreciated. Thanks. |

It goes through the bottom of the battery box. Tube goes through a grommet. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I see. I'll try looking for it then.
If anyone can post photos or diagrams, it'll still be greatly appreciated. |

Here you go - underside of battery box (RHD vehicle) showing the breather exiting through a rubber grommet near to front. From memory, inside that's concealed by the metal battery tray, so may not be obvious.

These help! Thanks!
I'll search for the grommet and hopefully won't have to with the vent to the other side of the battery as it's a beeyotch to pull out again. |
