Today... **** ELECTRICAL WIRING :
At first time I will run the engine with the Transit BCU, transponder, that will be the esaiest. At a second time I would like to make a direct communication between 10AS and the Transit engine ECU, but not sure it’ll be easy. 1) I’m looking for the Transit 3.2 wiring diagram, does some one has that, or at least the pinout of the ECU and BCU? 2) Are the informations on the CAN BUS well read by The defender instrument cluster even if ther is no pairing between Transit ECU and Defender IPAC ? (RPM, coolant temp, ….). By the experience of Groky87 it seems that yes. No conflics on the CAN BUS by adding a BCU ? 3) I try to understand how Defender immobiliser is working. I’ve read many topics and what is getting out is : The 10AS (old green model) is triggering a signal when it decides to mobilise. Is this signal just a +12v ? I think it is a signal containing the « mobilisation » code, code that can be read on the Nanocom « MEMS code ». Than, the signal enters the IPAC (instrument cluster), and it is here that opinions takes differnet ways. Some (and also the service manual) told the IPAC acts as gateway, transforming the « old type » signal from the 10AS to a comprehensive signal for the ECU. Does IPAC sends the code via CAN BUS ? I’m not sure. Does the IPAC modify signal before reexporting at pin 4 ? Also not sure because that don’t match with the BY PASS modification that someones have done to fix starting problems by unpluging pin 3 and 4 on the ipac and join them to do the continuity. With the BY PASS modification IPAC seems to have no role with the immobiliser process. So what is the exact role of the IPAC (instrument cluster) with the immobiliser ? That was the brainstorming of the day Click image to enlarge |

Front right lights loom is out 😜
The beginning is going slowly because of all the tape that is around the wiring loom. Click image to enlarge |

This looks interesting. I believe someone here in the UK can provide the conversion already but, they haven't shared much info on it of course. 4.0 V8 Defender 90

Continuing to weak the loom of all undesired functions, but first little problem.
Late on the eavening when I have finished my work, i tried to strat the motor, and all was perfect, it crank and started almost immediately. Next day, before touching the loom, I do an other test (as each time to be sure), the motor crank but takes long time to statrt (3-4 seconds). Checked diesel circuit and all grounds… It seems I have a CAN-BUS issue. Some times it start quickly, sometimes it’s a pain (6-7 seconds). I’ve unpluged all CAN-BUS component exept BCU and ECM, checked all the connectors, now it is a little better (but not perfect). I ‘ll check the 120 Ohms resistor of the CAN-BUS. Do you have some relevant informations on CAN-BUS wiring diagnostic ? Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Still working on the harness…
Central junction box is fully unwirered, and removed from the loom. Now same job on the battery junction box. All links to rear harness left and right are also removed. It begins to be lighter. I’ll try to keep the cruise control function but not sure which info is mandatory for it works… I think info from the abs (véhicule speed), brake and clutch pedal switch.
