anyone on here familiar with the gas regs?
here's the scenario.
old building with gas pipe running from basement up a riser located in the middle of the building to the roof.

new boilers require a new / larger gas pipe........
only the riser needs to be vented as basement and top to atmosphere !!!!

how do you vent the base of the riser to atmosphere when it both at basement level and in the centre of the building?......or is there a get out of jail clause?

Confused

think you might be onto something - hopefully there's an easier solution but not sure what it is?
Thumbs Up

Maybe some form of forced ventilation?

I doubt very much there is a get out of jail clause with Gas. It's pretty tightly prescribed.

I am also an electrical engineer, not a Gas fitter but it is always a difficult conversation with a customer when what they have that works has to be changed to comply with current regulations when they want something changed.

Venting a void containing a gas supply is only to prevent a gas build up that is permissible from a tightness test with appliances connected.
Multiply the width X height of the void (length is not important)
Eg void is 300 x 300mm
0.3 x 0.3 = 0.09m square, no issues having any size larger.
Commercial gas has a different set of regs. 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

Gas by itself does not explode, but when you vent it, it gives that oxygen needed to do Laughing

Not familiar with gas regulations, but check if fitting gas detectors could be a solution.
Have a detector installed on my boat, and the surveyor waived that the gas bottle is located inside the boat rather than outside. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

If the new pipe is installed in a duct the pipe would be vented at both ends, there’s also trac pipe cc product which is a pipe within an pipe system. But still check with your Gas Safe installer

LPG has a different set of rules

No matter what pipe method you use the ventilation regs apply 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8
