It is very satisfying, isn't it? Thumbs Up

I recommend before you fit it that you lubricate the insides of the ATB as thoroughly as you can, both through the holes visible in your photo as well as where the halfshafts slide in. Also make sure that you are diligent with your axle oil maintenance (although the cleanliness of you old diff suggests that you are well on top of this).

I managed to destroy an ATB after getting dirty water in the axle and not realising that this had happened, and when I stripped it out there was significant fretting to the side gear and halfshaft splines. I suspect that if this area gets gunged up then oil cannot get to it so it gets worse until the splines fail. If the oil is kept clean, then the problems should never happen.

I am not suggesting in any way that this is a defect with the diff, in my case it was a defect with the owner, being lazy and neglecting an axle oil change, leading to an expensive reminder of why oil changes are good. If my mistake can save someone else doing the same, it mitigates the pain somewhat.

Nice... How do they feel? Have you tested them out yet?

ATB's are on my list of "wants".

I am very happy with the ATB. Ive purposely waited a few hundred miles before writing about it to give it a chance to bed in and settle, but that was not needed. Its been perfect from the moment a wheel turned and has not changed.
I only have one in the front (so far). The roads here (southern Norway) are quite rutted from studded winter tires being driven on when there is no or little snow, so tram-lining is something that I have had to get used to over the years. The front ATB does a remarkable job of minimising it. And the return-to-center is quite strong which is nice - the wheel actually unwinds in your hands as you exit a corner. Driving on the highway is more relaxing because the truck wants to go in a straight line vs wandering back and forth with camber changes of the tarmac (Note - my alignment did not change).

I haven't been in much mud (rarely am) but I am often on dry, loose ground. The diff just works, there is really not much more to it that that Thumbs Up
Wheels don't slip, TC doesn't interviene. its all very drama free. Its an absolute hoot on fast gravel roads - the truck is planted and predictable, and with the center diff locked drifts very predictably.

Before long I'll put one in the rear. These things are really quite a big bang for the buck. Roaming around πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄πŸ‡¨πŸ‡

I was impressed after fitting mine to find on a steep muddy slope I could have the vehicle sitting in first on tickover with all 4 wheels slowly spinning at exactly the same speed, just as though I had three fully locked diffs.

That was with three ATBs and the centre one unlocked, the diffs were doing their magic autonomously.

Yes, they really are very cool. Maybe I’ll put one in the transfer case this winter… Roaming around πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄πŸ‡¨πŸ‡

"While I was at it" installing the front ATB, I also installed Gwyn Lewis MEGA 2020 props front and rear. Now I would usually avoid anything labeled "MEGA" but I made an exception.

These things are massive, and heavy.

I can't honestly say that they have made anything smoother, but they are certainly much easier to grease and have tightened up the driveline significantly. So much tighter when combined with the new front diff. I now have a distinct clunk from the rear. Not new or unusual, but the rear diff is clearly the only clunk left in the driveline at the moment! Rolling Eyes I guess I need a rear ATB also.
