intermittent ETC fault
2010 110 11MY 92k miles.

in feb 22 ABS/TC light came on part way through a journey, wen tout when ignition was cycled.

Jul 22 its come back on. intermittently. sometimes at the start of a journey sometimes after a non specified time of driving.

prior to it coming on you can hear (not feel) a noise from within the dash similar to noise you get when ETC operates. there is no light indication at this stage and no grabbing or operating of the brakes. tends to do this on turning.

Sometimes the orange ABS/TC light will then come on sometimes not.

When lights not on ETC is working as it should independently on each wheel. ABS i assume also works but not checked.

no faults showing on OBD reader either with lights on or off.

grateful for any thoughts on where to start. Cheers

James

Ahhhh I was just searching for this problem at lunch... Weird... Rolling Eyes

Checks

1) ABS sensors are correctly seated, connected and the wires are not broken.
2) Earth next to the ABS modulator can cause intermittent illumination of TC/ABS lights.
3) ABS modulator shuttle valve wiring intermittent connection, sometimes over bumps leading to illumination of TC/ABS lights and sometimes activation of ABS without brake pedal pressure. Shocked

Hope that's a starter for 10 Thumbs Up

Still not sorted. Intermittent means it never fails when I have the time to look at it! I think it's wheel sensor issue. Cheers

I’m having a similar issue (see post on maintenance thread).

I’ve replaced a suspect rear abs sensor and the abs shuttle valve thingy and lights (3 amigos) are still on.

I was wondering if the fault has to be reset before the lights go out?

Any advice guys and gals?

Cheers,

Will

Hi Screbble, I can’t advise about LR but Ilona’s Hyundai cleared the lights once the sensor had been replaced Thumbs Up cheers Paul

Thanks Paul - I kind of thought that but also subconsciously wanted it to require a reset to prove the repairs had worked…

The replacement of the WABCO modulator solenoid switch thingy hasn’t changed anything, and to be fair the old one looked and felt fine, but at least I know that’s not the cause. It was fun changing it!

Im now ‘hoping’ that my abs sensor isn’t in far enough…

All this hoping it’s not the mega bucks abs modulator…

Obviously I need to get it plugged in somewhere. Anyone got a Nanocom or similar in and around West Lancashire?

Thanks Paul,

Will

Yes the plan is to do that today when the sun has started to go to sleep.

I’m hoping the OSR is further in!

I have a second spare ABS sensor so will take the opportunity to replace that one at the same time - after measuring and photographing of course Laughing

I’m also going to look at the ABS wiring, relays, connectors etc. and see what I can find…

Wish me luck Thumbs Up

Just compared both rear abs sensors in terms of ‘depth of insertion’ (sounds like a phrase from Carry on Landrovering) and they are the same - approx 20mm from the face of the orifice to the cable end of the sensor.

So that ‘kind of’ made me a little downhearted as that was unlikely to be the problem.

I then tested all the fuses, relays, wires, connectors etc. on the ABS circuit and used contact cleaner along the way.

Low and behold those flippin’ 3 amigos have vacated the instrument binnacle!

Great news BUT not sure what (if anything) fixed it…

They may be back Wink
