Glad you got it sorted out now. Oh, the woes of Brexit...
And xVx! I'd be interested in what details they've changed since we got ours. And what the price is now. A side note on google translate. It's not as bad as the famous English Hungarian dictionary but deepl.com is much better in my experience, at least with German and French. I translated a travel report which I'd written in English to German and had only two or three minor things to change. |

Happy to share some pics when I get it so you can see if anything has changed. The specification I have is very high level and pretty much the same as their website. Current cost is EUR 8746 including VAT which makes them considerably cheaper than Ex-etc and Drexl but I have only heard good things about their quality so perhaps the others provide more accessories or are just charging a premium.

That price is only slightly higher than what we paid for ours in May 2018 .. Live will never be the same after you have the pop top ! you will wonder how you lived without it ! Well... just finished checking over the truck because I leave for Stuttgart early on Saturday morning to head to x-vision-x for my poptop conversion.
Heading to the Champagne region (would be rude not to), on Saturday for the night, then down to stuttgart on Sunday and maybe the mercedes museum on Sunday afternoon, then drop the truck off on Monday morning and fly home. Really looking forward to this, it's been a long time coming! |

Well I got there in one piece and dropped it off - only a minor fuel pump issue on the way down to contend with! I collect it Friday week and will drive back in a day so that'll be fun!
It was nice to meet Markus and to see his amazing trucks first hand. He's even building a completely new single cab shell which is wider than standard, so give lots more elbow room! @Wyvern do you still have the ratchet straps to secure your roof? I vaguely remember that someone with a poptop had a solution which did away with the straps.. I'll share some pics when I collect it |

I'd also be interested in a solution without the straps. Drexl does without it, but I'm not sure if it can be retrofitted or whether it's welded in. https://drexl-fahrzeugtechnik.de/wp-conten...150dpi.jpg But I think the straps are a good solution to keep the roof firmly shut even on corrugated roads and with a lot of bedding. However, when we collected our x-v-x roof in 2016, the straps hooked under the cappings which scratches and bends the steel. I fitted two of the original lashing eyes instead. Hi Andy
Yes XvX has ratchet straps that are supplied and fitted to the mid-line on the rear either side of the door. Hi MacFrank, we have not had any issue with the straps bending the metal - but they did supply some heavy duty ratchets which were very strong for the job, I changed the ratchet straps to a longer lighter weight tie down strap that I found easier to use and more suited to the task. It done not require a high tension pull on the top to keep it closed Some photos of the location of the mounting point - the straps are fitted to a carabiner type clip which enables the strap to removed if required. The fitting is very strong and can be positioned higher up if needed, however the strength of the mounting seems to be at the strongest point as well as being a more convenient location than elsewhere. looking forward to seeing your upgrade ! Thanks for all the info chaps, it’ll be interesting to see if the XVX design has changed at at all when I collect it.
Our first trip will be to the Pyrenees 2 weeks after I collect it, so no chance to test anything out before we go away. I’m sure we’ll learn a lot and can then figure out any modifications we need to make. No pics from Markus yet…I reckon he’s not started it and will do it all next week! |

I got a couple of pics from x-Vision-x showing the progress on my truck which I though I'd share.
I'm flying out tonight and collect it tomorrow morning and will then be driving back in a day, hoping that all the chaos at the ports and Eurotunnel is gonig the other way to me! I can't wait to see this pop up for the first time! Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |
