Pretty well every car out on the roads that is less than ten years old, or more likely sitting on the driveway, is not owned by the individual behind the wheel.

It’s owned by a credit company. And thanks to a combination of depreciation and service costs, that car is replaced before it hits negative equity and the cycle starts all over again.

So yeah, they won’t own it, but they are happy to pay for it to show it off to the neighbours….not realising that it is a liability, not an asset.

Did the people who are concerned about the subscription option fail to notice that you could purchase the same thing for a one-off fee (in the case of heated seats £200)?

If they were only doing ‘rent a heated seat’ I could see the point of concern but when you can ‘enable them’ permanently for £200, I don’t see how that is different from paying from them as an option from new?

Do I like subscription models - NO

Do I think this is another example of the friggin media taking a slant to wind people up - YES

Am I sick of the media doing that - YES

The same media who are talking is into another economic crisis and yet were reporting this week, after banging the doom gong for months, that actually the economy didn’t shrink as much as feared last month Rolling Eyes

Rolling with laughter

I nearly took the BMW on finance ,as the rate was low at 3.9%, and inflation running high. But a limit of £28k for the deposit and we must do it today to obtain that rate, changed my mind. Way too much effort. Whistle

The annoying thing was they wanted that money transfered a few days before they would register the car, and were very reluntant to take a debit payment (sales rep blaming accounts) due to the delay in receiving funds. A serious issue of trust by the BMW dealer.

When we bought the Puma in 2008 it was done over the phone. I wanted it ready to drive away when I collected it. The insurance was arranged for a date and time. The independent did his bit. The vehicle was registered in my name with the paperwork all sorted and my name on the log book. There was no deposit paid. Legally it was mine and I could have picked it up and driven away! 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Actually lucky I didn't do this when I bought our VW California.

I said we'll pay now on debit card, but they insisted that they demonstrate the vehicle beforehand. When I got inside I told them it was the wrong spec. They said how could I know that... it has a 3 pedals (we ordered DSG) . Turns out is was also the lower powered single turbo varient as well.

The moral was I didnt pay anything and was given this vehicle for 6months (6700miles) whilst they reordered ours.
