The problem with incentivising a certain type of vehicle at the cost of existing vehicles is that when people are forced to stop using the revenue generating vehicles, the revenue stops. The money is still needed but less is coming in. So no money in fuel duty, no road tax, no money - what could possibly go wrong.
It's quite funny that those vehicles that are using the most fuel, that the government pretends to hate so much, are infact the ones that produce most revenue per mile. If we finally all get electric vehicles, the government will still require the revenue. So something has got to give, they need money from somewhere or we can't have the services that our government provides. |

Part of me thinks there’s got to be a better way to all of this, a change in our income tax bands, a removal of all fuel tax and ved but a raise in income tax if you have a car

The EV lack of taxation has been a big drain on goverment funds not only zero roadtax, zero emmission charges but also no fuel duty or VAT from fuel sales. Also the company car personal tax incentives this has all got to end soon!
