I have a 90 and put my ECU against the bulkhead between the front seats. The wireloom ist just long enough, the only thing you have to extent is the hi / low transfer box sensor.
I am not sure if a flap to get to the box below the seat is practical. I use the space for some basic spare parts, oils and a bottle jack. It's up to you how you configure your vehicle, but personally (having had a 300 TDi with a centre seat and my current TD5 with a cubby box) I would never have a centre seat again!
The centre seat is small and not particularly comfortable and arms and legs tend to get in the way of the driver. I had fold out side seats fitted to the rear of the TD5, however you need to be aware of the regs regarding these! Anyway the cubby box is useful place to store torches, first aid kit, replacement bulbs and the locking wheelnut key! |

I have seen someone with a Series vehicle who cut a hole in the side of the seat box facing the door to allow access to the storage within. They had fitted alternative seats which were not removable so couldn't access the lids in the usual way. The openings were accessible easily with the doors open, but the limited clearance between the seatbox and the door when closed meant that stuff couldn't fall out when the doors were shut, and there is no need to try to cobble up any kind of flap. I think that this is a more sensible approach than cutting a hole in the front of the seatbox since it doesn't increase the risk of all the junk flying out under heavy braking. |

That’s a great idea to come in from the side!
Now I just need to figure out how to move the ECU so I can make use of the drivers side seat box for things like binos and gloves |

The centre seat is great if you are driving, and fancy the person who is sat in it.
