It occurs to me that the rear nearside top is where the breather is connected on the TD5 and early TDCi 110 tanks. Is it possible that it is the breather pipe leaking, not a split?

The mechanic dropped the tank and used a smoke generator to discover the source of the leak.

I remembered that I had some photos of the top of my 2007 TDCi tank when I removed it to change the pickup (I had a leak due to the pipe outlets in the pickup corroding and splitting the plastic surrounding them). This was also when I found out the unbelievably bizarre pricing policy which makes a TD5 pickup with a pump less expensive than the 2.4 TDCi version which is identical except for lacking the pump! Inexplicable, but we are talking Landrover.

The photos may not be relevant to this thread but might be of interest to anyone wondering about the early TDCi breather arrangements. Later tanks deleted the fitting at the ROS corner (second photo).

For reference, this is the 2nd hand tank that is arriving soon. I’ll post a picture of the damaged tank when the job is done.
