Have you asked the ORE whether they could do you a spacer plate?
I think the version that fits older defenders comes with a spacer to allow for the crossmember tabs. If you only need a couple of mm, maybe that would work? 2011 CSW XS 90 |

Looking on ORE’s website they have a picture of the Optimill hinge trimmed.
It does state the below on the website along with a picture (that I am unable to upload) that shows where someone has shaved the bottom of the hinge off. Does it work with Optimil Hinges? – Our wheel carrier was designed to work with all well-known hinges on the market at that time. Since then Optimill has released a security hinge that sits much prouder on the body so our wheel carrier won’t fit. Sadly we cannot modify the top bracket of our carrier or the bearing housing for a number of structural/design reasons. Some customers asked about a packer plate but then that pushes the wheel away from the door as well as create a number of other geometry issues not to mention looking terrible sitting that far away from the door! There is, however a few workarounds: -Fitted security hinges by others that are not so proud on the body (most others on the market), Fitted the Optimill hinges bar the bottom one and left the bottom as a factory hinge or Shaved the bottom corner of the hinge off with a file or grinder where it contacts the wheel carrier bracket to allow clearance (photo in the product gallery) |

Someone messaged me about this post as I don’t use this forum very often. Drop us an email from contact field on website Basically I’m got the guys cutting spacers… the overhang of the tub over the xmember is LR Factory tolerance +/- 8mm I’m reliably told. This means some fit with no issue and some fit with trimming. Plan is to have a spacers made 1 to 4mm and you can select from spare parts section of the website. It will Take a couple of weeks as we’re flat out with back orders and Just moved to a bigger premises which has been somewhat painful in terms of disruption. Email us for anything further as I don’t use this platform often Thanks Chris |

I've been very pleased with the (whisper it) Britpart one that I have fitted. It does require a couple of holes drilling, which I know that some people are squeamish about. Anyway, there's more detail about its fitting here:

Yes seconder for the britpart one. Have had on for nearly 7 years without a problem. I did change some of the bolts for stainless. No idea if it is compatible with aftermarket hinges though.

I've been using the nakatanenga spare wheel carrier for about four years now. It was expensive but I think it's worth it. The weight is completely transferred to the rear crossmember and if I recall correctly, it did not require any drilling. It was the only one I found at the time that transferred all the load from the door to the crossmember while looking stock or close to stock.

Had a Nakatenga carrier since new (actually the first one lasted 18 months and saved the back of the car from a lot of damage after being hit by a truck) cant beat the quality & service from Barbara & Brendan at 4x4 Overlander

+1 for ORE. Fitted mine with the TMD hinges, no problems.
It does require two people when fitting. |

Had an ORE one fitted to mine for a couple of years now with no issues all, I also have the Optimill hinges fitted, mine didn’t require cutting and I’m surprised to hear that some have? Sounds odd?

I have the new Optimal Security Hinges which foul on the ORE wheel carrier. I used a file and dremel to take the hinge corner off to allow the carrier. Simples...
ORE will not alter their kit or supply anything to accommodate the Optimal hinges. Chris at ORE said he purchased and reached out to all available at the time on the market and Optimal didnt mention a redesign. R&D was extensive from ORE. |

I have a Nakatanenga and it's superb... really well made, is lasting well, just looks and feels bullet proof.
The one downside (apart from the price) is that I believe it's not compatible with Bowler rear steps without some major (to me) alterations, Matt |
