Snap-On Impact Driver PIT120 Operation??
Evening all

I've got a few seized screws and bolts around my Defender 90. Several folk have commented about using an impact driver so when one came my way in the week I got it. Sadly it has no instructions and I can't find any.

On the body it has a left and right arrow with matching On and OFF. So you can rotate the 3/8" stub left and right which I presume is On and Off ... BUT, I was expecting some sort of Clockwise or Anti-clockwise setting to extract or tighten a screw or bolt.

Can ANYONE clear up this tool's operation please ..

You turn the 3/8 stub to the way you wish it to operate. I think the on / off is “nut on, or nut off” which I prefer as tighten/loosen, but obviously this is only for standard threads, not reverse thread.

The above is bases on a standard impact driver, no a Snap-on one, but can’t see it being any different.

Could you not just practice on a nut and bolt in a vice and find out? I’m pretty sure it’s “normal” as I’m off is to remove the nut/bolt. Just put it on, take up any slack and hit it with the mallet.

Should have mentioned that I'd tried that with no obvious effect ... what I think "Should be" straight forward is not. 2010 Defender 90 300Tdi CW (White/1994)

Are you going to use this impact driver on body fasteners?
Generally M6 body fasteners are very easy to shear off if nut is seized solid.
M8 are a bit harder, but still can shear off. So no hammering on body.
Of course as long as the bolt head or nut are not rounded.

Larger bolts used for suspension components.. I guess 3/8" drive is a bit too small? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

The on/off thing seems to be a stupid Snap On thing. It is the same on a couple of my Snap On ratchet handles.

Hi Steve, maybe me but still not totally clear. I'm working on Off = Anti-clockwise (Undo) and On = Clockwise (Tighten).

But really not clear, I have a Norbar 1/2" and that's crystal clear.
