Make sure you have a a seal filler strip tool as without one inserting the filler strip is almost impossible. And use lots of fairy liguid or silmilar as a lubricant.

Thanks for the tips. i'm having the windows tinted and the glazier is going to replace all the seals at the same time - so i'm not doing it and he's got quite a portfolio of defenders he's worked on. There are certain things i'm happy to try but anything with windows i'm happy to pay.

Make sure the join in the seal is along the top edge and not the bottom, and make sure they use genuine LR seals.

5mm glass was fitted upto and including VIN numbers ending with EA344187
4mm glass was fitted from EA344188 The "E" is the model year. Slightly confusingly with 90/110/Defenders, the model year letters "A" to "G" were used twice, for 1984 through to 1990 (roughly corresponding to UK registration prefix letters) and again for 2010-2016 model years. Anyway, in this case, the change point is in the 1980s range not 2010s range [as it's given in the pre-Puma parts catalogue]. So a 2003 Defender sits after EA344188 and was factory fitted with 4mm glass. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW Last edited by Martin on 16th May 2022 12:13pm. Edited 1 time in total |
