It seems odd it isn’t a more official organiser doing the event? Considering it’s a big anniversary etc. I’m surprised LRO or similar isn’t the organiser. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

I expressed an interest too - and today received this email -
Thank you for your interest in the Guinness World Record attempt. Since our initial post we have had what we think is a very exciting development regarding our record attempt. We initially had the idea of all meeting at Donington Park Derbyshire and then trying to set the record etc late on the Sunday afternoon . But as the interest grew it was clear that lots of people wanted this to be more of a large Land Rover celebration and show, with camping options and a show on the Sunday and the record attempt etc. As this exact date of 75yrs really is something very special that needs celebrating. If you have already paid a deposit and cannot attend the new show we would obviously refund you. We have been working hard behind the scenes and quickly realised that we had to honour this historic date with a full weekend event. So we have finally managed to secure a suitable venue to host " The 75th Anniversary Gathering" a full celebration of this amazing vehicle and it will be held at Weston Park Staffordshire over the weekend of 29/30th of April 2023. There will be camping available on the Saturday & Sunday evenings for those who might want to stop over, with a traditional show on the Sunday to include vehicle displays, show and shine event. Over 100 trade stalls and obviously food and drink vendors. And our record attempt taking place at around 5pm on the Sunday. We really hope you are still be interested in joining us . And being part of the record attempt. The pricing for this amazing weekend is as follows. Camping 2 Nights ( Including Admission Tickets) One Vehicle including 3 Adults or 2 Adults and upt o 3 Children £85 One Vehicle including 2 Adults £70 Extra Adults £45 Extra Vehicle £20 General Admission Sunday Show Per Person £17 Under 16s Free Guinness World Record (your vehicle in the procession) £28 Hope this works for you and that you want to attend this weekend and take part in the record attempt. Please let me know your thoughts. I'm not sure why there is the extra charge for taking part in the actual world record attempt, unless Guiness World Records charge for this, or there are insurance implications, or a commemorative plaque etc Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond..... |

Sounds dodgy tbh. There’s no way there’s enough room at Weston park to do the record attempt. The entry price is also ridiculous for a one make show on a field. I went the classic car show at Weston 2 weeks ago and iirc it was 24 for a family of four! If you came in a classic iirc it’s a fiver.

Actually no Ramsay, their first name begins with A. I don’t want to mention names publicly (yet?). |

I think I tend to agree with this. I would like to see an estimated breakdown of costs before joining the party. I hate being had over and this has an aroma of such. Someone perhaps trying to take advantage of "enthusiasts". The RAC/AA must be having kittens! I certainly hope they don't get the title of most vehicles of the same make to break down on the same stretch of road on the same day. All those old classics in a slow queue with lots of stop/start action. If this does come off I hope it is to celebrate the original concept and progression and not to line someone's pockets. |

How has it gone from £10 to register to £28 plus entry costs to the event?
Blatant profiteering if it is a genuine event 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

Hello All
The idea to celebrate 75 years is a good one... How it's organised will be key... Anything that looks like profiteering will see us staying away... Land Rover should 'own' this taking the opportunity to say thank you to customers... Entry 'fee' for participation... Driving a Land Rover... We could always pay our own Tribute by returning to Red Wharf Bay... Click image to enlarge SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

Obviously they're not experienced at putting on this type of event. £70 camping + £28 to take part = £98 ... per vehicle.... Deposit required up front... what could go wrong? Just to give someone else - and Landrover - the glory of a 75th anniversary event. No thanks. |

It would be nice if the Factory did put on something for the 75th, but they haven't in the past, so I doubt anything will change - maybe something will be done in the dealerships?
OT - this happened at the Series One club 50th event at Shugborough Hall - the AA were called out to a broken down green Land Rover - there were some 450 entrants at this event! Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond..... |
