Well any tips. I am left with no choice but to do it myself. I just want to do the Air, Oil, & Fuel filters and a change of oil, sump plug of course and top the rear diff as I have bad seal, “just a weep” as the LR guy said. Will replace the flange when I get the readys together. But,
I have been told a few strange things about the puma, like it has two oil filters? I can only see the one on the bottom of the engine, looks plastic? and normal. Will this come off with the appropriate socket? Anyway any tips on any of it and order to proceed. You are my Haynes. 08 Puma 90xs BMW R1150R KXF250 Keep On Truckin |

Engine oil is easy to do. Get the truck level, and slide in from the front (you do the filter & drain from under), you'll see this: Click image to enlarge Oil filter is the dome on the left (passenger side of vehicle), with a 27mm hex on the bottom. Oil drain is the 13mm obvious drain on the bottom of the sump (top right of photo). loosen the filter first (you'll need a long extension bar, as it's well recessed above), let the oil dribble before you remove the plastic dome completely. Then the oil sump drain. When you remove the filter completely, it's a small paper-type element which just fits back into the plastic dome. You get a new O ring with the filter, so change that too. It holds around 7 litres, so make sure you have something big enough to hold all the old oil...and it DOES come out fast so be prepared. It should be warm, so it drains better. The oil is Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil (Recommended by Ford) - you will need 7 litres. Most buy 2 x 4 Litre cans from Opie Oils. When refitting, you can re-use the oil drain plug, it has a rubberised washer. Tightening torques are: Oil Drain plug: 23nm Oil Filter housing 35nm PS the Puma has 1 filter, part number LR004459. It was the TD5 which had 2 filters... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) Last edited by MartinK on 19th Oct 2011 7:31am. Edited 4 times in total |

Regarding the above query, have Land Rover stops issuing ECU updates for the Puma. That was one of my reasons for going to the maindealer,to make sure I had the latest update. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Thanks for replies lads, this is my first LR and I am piratically nerves with it. This will help boost my confidence. Manley worked on bikes before. Martin, Chris, would have been a long time looking for that second filter Good info there martin appreciate the detail and have spent many a night considering oils, by the way, ep 90 for the rear diff? drove over the torques, was going to mark and count, maybe i should reinvest, cheaper in the long run.
Grockle, Shillelagh only a country mile away. story, you been this way? Spudfan, Don't know but I had mine done in April and the hand brake and valve ER valve cant think of its name now, I was pleased with LR as I didn't buy it from a dealer, and it was out of warranty. I only knew of these recalls from this site and thought they would tell me to jump.(Great Site, god knows what trouble I would be in without this) Ill let ye know how I get on, hopefully wont be posting pic's of cracked oil pans or the like. 08 Puma 90xs BMW R1150R KXF250 Keep On Truckin |

Martin - whats that line on your sump?
you dont need to replace the sump drain plug, it has a rubber sealing ring. fuel filter as advised above to minimise air intake. Rest is simple. Dont forget the rest of the service items! Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

called my dealer today, €138 for service kit only €38 for a Bearmach kit from a local distributor. Anything wrong with their filters?
Edit: yea Martin what happened you pan? I thought at first it was a dribble of oil, but it also looks like a weld job? 08 Puma 90xs BMW R1150R KXF250 Keep On Truckin |

It IS a dribble of oil! Not sure where it came from, but I'll be keeping an eye on it! Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Martin, I also want to change the engine oil, but the part number I found on internet for the oil filter is LR030778. Does this number correspond to the same filter?? thanks Carlo 1971 88 Series IIA somewhere in Southern Italy 1989 Ninety stolen in Paris 2004 90 TD5 gone 2010 110 S Puma TDCI running |

INteresting, I just went into my local LR dealer, and bought mine over the counter. I just asked for a Puma oil filter, and the part # was the one I put on the posting.
If you ask at your local LR parts dept, they'll usually give you 10% discount, which makes them competitive with internet sellers (by the time you've paid P&P). Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |
