Is hinge servicing an option?
My 90 is now 9 years old and all the hinge pins are starting to rust, is there no option at all to service them, as in knock the old pin out and replace (not sure about the rear though? If not, does anyone know of a replacement service that will colour match them (Loire blue) or is billet the way forward?

Not really, it's well nigh impossible to get the pins out. Replacement is the cost-effective option.

Thanks Blackwolf. Any tips out there on how to paint a set using rattle cans for longevity?

Hi. I use occasional acf50 treatment to my hinges and have done for 7 years since new. No evidence of rust or wear as yet. 78000 miles. I recommend this for your new hinges πŸ‘ 2015 90 XS Santorini Black

When I bought my 90 most of the rear door hinges were seizing up, over time and plenty of light oil two out of the three have freed off nicely, the third is better but still tight so I have bought a spare to change at some point as I’m told they are not serviceable Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…

I oil mine occasionally, maybe twice a year and this seems to work ok. Is this not as effective as the acf50?

The problem is that they are commonly just neglected until they are a problem and at that point it is too late.

Yes agreed. It has to be continuous really from new. I apply a little acf50 once month to all the hinges 2015 90 XS Santorini Black

I'd be interested in people's thoughts on the approach taken here - For the cost of replacing with OEM hinges I'm not sure I'd bother with the pin replacement, but fitting the grease nipple intrigues me as an easy monthly job to take care of.

Interesting solution. probably works very well at forcing moisture out etc and would no doubt increase the life of the hinge... But in my opinion is suited more where the vehicle might be heavily used off road frequently .. Just my thoughts... 2015 90 XS Santorini Black

Mine are pretty regularly treated to ACF 50, but I fear that regularly using a foam degreaser to clean the car has negated the effect.

Grease nipples might be an option on a new set, but it’s not exactly subtle!

Forum stalwart Landroveranorak on here had the excellent idea of drilling a small hole through the centre of the hinge from a discrete angle as far as the centre pin, which allows the hinge to be greased with a chainsaw-type push-action lubricator.

It's a really neat, subtle, and effective solution and one I'd definitely do if I ever had standard hinges again.

Thanks for the mention. The idea was unashamedly pinched from another member, Lightningtweeds, though Laughing

If you're replacing the hinges anyway, I'd definitely go down the security/billet route from optimill or similar. Or at the very least get some hinge plates. I don't see why you couldn't pain them to suit, though you might want to request them in raw instead of anodised. 1985 127 V8 Build Thread

Thanks LRA. I’m going to have a crack at this on Saturday to see if I can catch them early enough. I really like the look of the original hinges, terribly security not withstanding!
