Plastic nail!?!
Right... back again with another query. Just going slow due to my propensity for breaking things.

Was about to remove the front grille, as per Mantec's instructions - however instead of the 8 screws depicted in the manual, I have 8 "plastic nails", like these:

They're also known as part no. DZM100080, a.k.a. "FASTENER, WITH MANUAL AIR CONDITIONING".

Any idea how one removes these w/o breaking them?

Okay - admit that I'm a total novice when it comes to mechanical matters, but I thought that I'd be able to get a bit further than this. Embarassed

I tried to remove the bolts from the driver's (RHD) side, it would not budge! It was also neither 17 nor 19mm as stated in the manual... Perhaps I'm attacking it from the wrong side?

Jeez...

On my first attempt to fit mine I couldn't budge the bolts either. I then noticed that the instructions required a torque wrench too. A quick trip to Halfords, and using the much longer torque wrench to undo the stubborn bolts they came off easily. Peter

You can get the fir tree nails of eBay cheaper. I left the top bolt in when I fitted mine not worth the agro but the near side is not to bad to get at just get a cheap breaker bar and some decent sockets I also took the steering guard bit off to make it easier. Thumbs Up

If you need a hand pop round in the evenings, we are normally in.

I would first give all the nuts and bolts a good squirt of plus gas, have a cup of tea and then give it a go. 2002 Defender 110 DC

Thanks - I just might... if I can get some free time from baby duty. Confused

The top bolt looks like it is going to be a right pain, can barely see it w/ the radiator. Neutral

Thanks, I appreciate it. Thumbs Up

There is no rush, I'm not going anywhere in the near future where I run the risk of damaging my steering. (touch wood).

Unfortunately I've got to work on the Saturday, The Man is making me trek in to the office. Evil or Very Mad

Maybe Sunday if you're around? (and The Man doesn't demand my presence in the office again).

So what are you going to do about recovery points?

Not get stuck? Razz Alternatives include bumper with built in recovery eyes or swivel recovery eyes mounted to front bumper.
