Well santa was good to the 306, one of the lads on the 306 forum from many moons ago, drove all the way to drop off a rear bumper and some other odds and sods, ( to make it worth while and it was the same colour 306) We had a bit crac on, about the old times on the forum. Our old projects, we both started an engine conversion at the same time. His is now up and running, when mine was done and dusted back in the 2012, and became a tin of beans in 2019 i believe.
Anyway i managed to get the alternator installed, What a nightmare of a job that was!! The space you have to work with and what you got to remove, it took me 2 days to do. due to the weather. I ordered some nice long spanners for the auto tensioner for the belt. So today i decided to get that sorted. Got the car started, it seemed to be a little harder to fire over, so i thought ok. let her tick over to get some charge in the battery. Gave it a rev and the engine cut out, took longer to fire over again, and the engine symbol came on the dash, looks like the fuel pump is dying on me. My mam decided to tell me " oh the fuel gauge was a little hit and miss" ( that is part of the fuel pump on these) So another one is ordered off, this will be the 3rd one its going to have, the other was replaced 10 years ago. I thought it was a little odd for it to just cut out, so another problem was sneaking up. But at least this one isn't a nightmare to do. Also i am looking at changing the wheels to XSI units, the cyclones are just a bridge to far now to get balanced, and its going to need new tyres this year. Well today i thought we would be back in business, changed the fuel pump in the tank, car took some starting, which i was like ok, as it would need to bleed itself. Car fires over and ticks over for a good 15mins, As soon as i took it out of the driveway, engine light on and back to square one. i have did some more digging into this, and i found out that the fuel pressure regulator can cause these problems. Thanks to a video on youtube, of a left hand drive 306 having the same bother. Got one ordered anyway, and the tank pump change i did wont hurt it either, as these can go too, and the one that was in is 10 years old. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Well the weather was nice, so i made a start on sorting this out, after finding what to remove etc. Turned out that i bought the wrong bloody sensor, Peugeot have got a number of these bloody units. so again another 60 quid.
But on the plus side, i have repaired the door locking problem, but my door cards are starting to warp, I may need to put newer clips in the cars. Also fitted my new air filter, but kept the old unit so i can clean that out. I bought stuff of one of the lads on here. looks like there is more going on with this sadly, I have had to bell a pug specialist to see what the story is. As i think something else is stopping this from running Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

got the car plugged in and it and had a few things monitored, and checked. Turns out the fuel rails system is starting to get pressure, but it dies. i was told to try easy start to see if it fires, if it does, then its injectors, Which it did fire and run for a while, but it wasn't happy. So i am suspecting that a injector has gone down and its causing a leak back, as one of my mates suggested. i will let the pug specialist know what happened, so he can push me forward in the right direction, But at least me and my dad had the car running again and its not the fuel pumps. I am thinking it wasn't common pressure valve at all. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

The hairs on my wooden leg, are telling me that the HP pump in the engine bay, has bit the dust. After me and my dad had it running, my dad revved it to make sure the fuel system was blead out. The car just cut out. We tried to get her to start, but nope. The pug specialist popped over and plugged her in, and found that the fuel pressure had flagged up in the error code. He found me a replacement rail sensor for free, just to see if the car would start, also did a few checks on the injectors, to see if the immobiliser had tripped. All was ok on that front, he said if the sensor wont get this running, then the HP pumps gone down, I have replaced three known failure points on the system, which are the cheep options. The ECU doesn't log a HP failure sadly, if the ECU sees less than 300 PSI it will shut the full works down, which could a senor or the lift pump going. My mate who had a well tuned 306 before switching to golf. He said that he will rig a gauge up and confirm. He replaced his pump with an uprated one, So it makes sense for me to do the same thing if this is the problem. He is going to double check a few things with me 1st My dad is wanting this back up and running as much as me, but common rail stuff is new to me, and i should really start in vesting in the tech, ( leak back test kit was a start) So things are moving slowly, Also i did buy some genuine seat covers for it So those will be going on the car soon. My pal came down today to double check the fuel pump, and its looking like its bit the dust sadly. So the car is now in bits and the pump is way to a specialist to be tested and to see if i can get it rebuilt. New pumps for these are no longer about now, just recon units. My pal steered me away from a up rated unit due to machining of the outer engine case. So god know how much its going to cost Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
