Hi folks.
I'm soon to upgrade my 2010 90 SW with retrofitted Genuine Central Locking. My vehicle doesn't have the loom, so a custom overlay loom is planned to connect with factory door harnesses. But I don't know how the factory central locking wires were routed through the vehicle. I assume at the front, its from the 10AS ECU, behind the dash and into the two front door pillars, but its the routing for the back that I really have no idea about. I had assumed that the rear wiring would have run from the ECU up the windscreen pillar into the headlining then back to the rear drivers side quarter and down to the corrugated rubber tube into the door... but the photo below from a puma 90 getting soundproofed seems to show all the wiring running along the inside of the tub, behind the trim to the drivers seat area. It is run as part of the chassis loom, along with the rest of the rear door electrics like wiper etc.

For the front the loom goes out the bulkhead into engine then back into the door pillars
Rear door I am taking mine up over the roof, simpler Second row doors they go out from the right hand seat box, then there is the power that goes behind dash out again to engine bay and to left seat box for the battery connection Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing. 5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

You are totally correct they follow the door open switch route, out the back of the right side seat box then one cable routed left one right. I don’t know if the op has a 110 or a 90 as on a 90 they are not present but the connector is still there. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

Just thought I'd revive this old thread.
My overlay loom and pair of simplified front door looms (CL only, no EW) has now arrived (see pics), so just wanted to confirm my understanding. So in the image of the main loom (laying on the carpet) you can see a central node from which there are pink, yellow/pink and orange wires, each with a pin - these connect into the unused cavities in the two ECU plugs - orange into slot 2 on the green connector (C0057), pink into slot 3 of the green connector and yellow/pink into slot 7 of the grey connector(C0061). There is also a black ground wire with a loop on the end that is connected to a handy earth. So from there (the bit I'm nervous about), the loom leaves the ECU area and goes out into the engine bay - I'll find a grommet for this, I had a nightmare with this job when running the rear speaker connection loom - the only unused grommet I could find was behind the instrument binnacle so I had to run a length of mig wire through. When it enters the engine bay in the region of the steering column... I guess that I look for some wires going to each of the door pillars and try and work out how they get in there. Would it be sensible to follow the door open/interior light wiring or if another wire route would be sensible I'd appreciate any pointers for a colour code to follow. I'm assuming the passenger side would run across the top of the bulkhead below the bonnet shut line. ...Then I've got to get it to the back door. I guess that the chassis loom disappears from the engine bay somewhere below the driver's footwell. Q: Does the chassis loom on a Puma 90 run inside the chassis rail or on top of it? Either way is it sensible to try and run the wires inside some existing conduit or simply strp them onto the outside? ...then i Guess that the loom would run up behind the little plastic flap at the back of the rear driver's wheelarch and up into the light cluster area on the drivers side and through the corrugated conduit into the door area. Does that sound about right? If so, I'll get out there tomorrow and will start planning the route. ...though thinking about it I'll have to start from the two front door pillars and work inwards as the plugs on the pillar ends won't go through any tight gaps. Yes factory wiring for front doors follows the same route as the door switches, across the top of the engine bay side of the bulkhead and into the front of the A pillar, and then pops out of the back side of the pillar in the convoluted tube through into the doors.
The chassis loom drops from the connectors which are next to the clutch master cylinder on the drivers footwell, and enters the chassis around the bulkhead outrigger. It then pops out near the back and goes up to the tub on the o/s corner. Wiring for the rear door, including CDL motor, goes through a grommet in the wheelbox and then out of the cover plate into a convoluted tube that leads to the door. However you run your wires you’ll need to protect them in a conduit. As long as they’re secure and away from moving/hot parts then you can run them as you like. To get into the engine bay there is a big rubber grommet on each side that the main loom uses to pass through. You will be able to make a small hole in this to get your wires through. Make sure it’s well sealed if you’ll introduce noise and potentially leaks. |

brill! thank you. I'll have a good look at mine and plan the routing out.
