R380 gearstick housing assembly
I picked up the top bit gear selector plate thingy off Ebay a while back, to go on a new (to me) R380, ie. the bits in the following diagram:

However when I took my bally-bit out to give it a thorough cleaning, I found the pin through it which sits under the spring arms, it potentially broken on the one side:

If I look at the part on the web, it looks like it should have a pin running all the way through it:


Before I go and pick up the part and spent a long time working out how to remove the pin from my bally thing - could anyone confirm that the pin really should be on both sides, and it is not just sprung for the reverse gear only?


Second problem - when I removed the bally-thing from the housing a number of projectiles when flying across the garage. I found these two foreign objects on the floor:

These parts are not listed in the above LRWorkshop image. From inspection it looks like the plastic bit sits in the spring, which then both go in the hole in the bally-thing (lots of technical jargon here today Laughing ), which is what prevents the bally-thing from coming out the top of the housing (as the bolt and washer are positioned above it).

Does anyone happen to know if there were any other parts which may have vacated the work area when these flew out?

Yes pin comes out both sides so you can line stick up with in the gearbox gate.

Ah I didn't think to look at SynchroGearboxes, they even have videos detailing the whole assembly, awesome thanks Andy!

I should have a spare lever (FRC8724) if you need one, I doubt you'll find the pins separately.

The plastic plunger (22G1988L) and the spring (22G1989L) are the only parts which fit into the lever, you haven't lost anything. Thumbs Up 1985 127 V8 Build Thread

Yes looks like the pin is not sold separately. I could get the knobbly bit between £65 and £200, but decided to bite the bullet and get the complete kit from synchro-gearboxes, at:

This also includes a new turret (they say these can wear), the foam bit which I don't have (sound deadening?) and one of their reduced throw assemblies. I'm not a huge fan of reducing the throw if I'm honest, I don't find it particular long on the Td5, but this seems the most economical way of getting the whole lot in one go. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Good choice Hufflepuff - it’s on my ‘to do’ list.

Like you I’m less bothered about the ‘throw’ but would like a more positive and ‘less worn’ gear changing experience Thumbs Up

That said, I expect I would probably like the shorter throw as many others have commented on how good it feels.
