What a great idea... I have locked the keys inside my old 90 countless times Seems like I could never learn... and always pushed the lock down and then closed the door... and oops.. may times with the keys still in the ignition
Luckily my newer 90 is with central lock, so I lock through the remote. Yes, that chassis looks like new. Guess no salty roads in Buenos Aires... and kept far from the Atlantic ocean. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Please be aware that those key boxes (that particular make) can be opened in seconds without damage if you know how to do it, you don't even need any tools. You can "read" the combination it has been set to undetectably and then open it any time you wish.
I would never under any circumstances leave a key for anything important in one. |

I agree with Blackwolf - it took me less than 20 seconds googling to find out how to open that key safe. Doesn’t need any tools at all, is undetectable, and can be locked again with no evidence.
If you want to be paranoid - have a google for ‘lock picking lawyer’. Dave Green Goddess - 1998 Defender 110 300tdi Last edited by nosnibod on 6th Feb 2022 9:42am. Edited 1 time in total |

Oh dear…. We have a spare house key in one, though it is quite tucked away. I’ll not search for the lock picking lawyer till I’ve had my coffee.
But it begs the question, is there a similar thing that’s deemed more effective? I was thinking of doing something quite similar for our summer trip. I suppose you need to know it’s there, and surely much better than the old magnetic key box pictured that wasn’t lockable.

Yes, but not in that price band. Something like this gives reasonable security, it can be opened but not quickly and not without skill and (expensive) tools, or possibly explosives! I am not aware of any relatively cheap lockboxes which provides anything approximating acceptable security. There are cheap locks and there are good locks, but there is no such thing as a good cheap lock. |

oh i supossed that the box wasn´t inviolable but no than easy thay you guys describe... i will search it on web. Anyway, i think the box is quite hidden, and most important, here in Buenos Aires, and all Argentina, many cars are stolen, but no Defenders. There are as few trucks here and are so striking that there are not the usual target of thievs. thanks anyway ¡ |

and if not we could put the key back in the classic location behind the light case, but I think that's too obvious now... |

My insurance does not cover theft of the vehicle if the key is left "in or on the vehicle". Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.

My work van is fitted with slam locks so we keep a spare in one of these underneath in case the keys are ever locked inside.

I was thinking "oh dear..." when I saw the picture. When we were kids, we used to make fun of picking number code bicycle locks in the school yard and changing the code or putting them on other bikes Soo easy. Recently I saw a similar lock and they haven't changed much in decades... Also I would hide any box away from mud and sight. |
