General Grabbers get my vote. I've been running them for a while and they're cracking tyres. Darren

BFGs because you're right, they do look cool.
I'm planning 18s (probably XTR1s) + BFG KO2s for mine this year. Can't decide if it should be white lettering on display or not though. Guess it's no big deal to swap 'em around either way. |

I've gone with the Cooper discoverer AT3 Sport 2's (still awaiting for them to arrive)
Cant justify the £80 extra a corner for the BFG's for a tyre I wasn't pleased with before. 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html Instagram - @r22oyp Roy |

Cooper run rings around BFG, shame we can't get Zeon's anymore as I love them and when they run out I'd want another set.
There's also a fair few offerings from Micky Thomson who would get on my short list... |

I’ve used both cooper AT3’s and BFG AT2 extensively. The BFG is in a different class off road as you might expect. However on road, there isn’t much in it at all, I’ve never struggled for grip with either but that might be more about driving style. The coopers are a tad quieter. The BFGs lasted a lot longer so while they might be more per corner, the cost for the life of the tyre will be less. From memory they were knocking on for 20k miles more life in them.

Use now and again for what though? Mud plugging, green lanes, the odd trip to Waitrose?
I went from GG AT3's to BFG's (wheels came with BFG's) and TBH I've not noticed a difference in the cold or the wet, then again its also a our farm truck but its mostly used between fields. If I were running 18's I'd be tempted by the Pirelli Scorpion AT+ as a few folk I know rave about them on their various Range Rovers. |

Hello
Interesting, Most of the trips will be a short trip to work 14 miles each way down A roads, then the odd holiday to the Lakes, Scotland 2 weeks touring round. The odd green lane but nothing too lumpy. In that respect its annual millage will probably be less than 3000 now.. So like a few I don't need a quieter road based tyre. I was concerned about the wet weather grip but I've searched this and seems it was an early batch? it also seems they put them on the LS3 engined Twisted so should be ok for a Mapped diesel I will have another quick look at options. Thanks |

I don’t think any at tyre is going to be that amazing on an LS3 Defender, a bit like trying to use super g skis in a resort, great fun in the right conditions, certain death in others 🤣

Also don't rule out Toyo Open Country MT if you want a cheaper tyre!
Or stop messing about and go for a set of 37" trepadors!!
