Evening all. I’ve just received some very sexy looking cupro nickel brake pipes for the DC. Problem is that I popped down there today to get the old set out and realised that my 11mm spanner is a shade too large. They’re fixed tight and I desperately want to avoid burring them, so need to get my hands on the correct imperial spanner. In France. Does anyone know what size it is, or what size imperial spanner relates to being just under 11mm? Obviously I might just buy a set as I assume there is a host of other imperial bolts around the vehicle. With that in mind, anyone recommend a good set that I might be able to get through Amazon. If not, and if I ruin them or can’t get them off, I may have to replace the master cylinder as well.
Thanks in advance as always. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

only ones I can find on Amazon.fr:
https://www.amazon.fr/BGS-polygonales-ouvertes-pièces-1782/dp/B003DDSAH6/ref=sr_1_82?__mk_fr_FR=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&crid=1XBKO21LMWM3E&keywords=Kit+de+clés%2C+conduite+de+frein&qid=1643741102&sprefix=kit+de+clés%2C+conduite+de+frein%2Caps%2C80&sr=8-82 But surprised they're not metric, I'll look at mine tomorrow after the weekly Leclerc trip. Click image to enlarge Hi Grenadier. The problems never end. Search for a 10mm 11mm brake pipe spanner. Better quality for a better fit! |

Defo use the above wrenches, have seen a slightly rounded 11mm be actually removed with one of the above Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.
5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

Right. Bought a set. Metric. It’s been freezing here, so maybe the extra play was that the bolts had shrunk and the spanner, out of a warm car, was ‘normal’. Also it occurred to me that I have no intention of keeping them, so could just use some punchy pliers. Thanks all. The spanners will no doubt prove useful for other occasion as well. If the brake pipe coming off will not be replaced, cut the pipe and use a socket to remove it. I think that us what most mechanics would try to do as you are far more likely to get it to move with a good fitting socket.
I have just had to remove the caliper on my defender, which was interesting. This was for a wheel bearing (though I had decided to replace the calipers). Click image to enlarge Removing the other half and the bolts was even more interesting. And so begins my vehicle maintenance journey!@ |
