No. It was an assembly fault due to an incompetent poorly trained and inexperienced worker. The fault was not found during assembly resulting in extensive disassembly to identify and rectify the fault. It turned out to be a gear wheel loose in the ‘box which could be returned to its rightful place with some difficulty due to tight access, so no new parts were required. The worker has been sent for further training.

Well, mine has the same problem. Typical JLR subcontractor quality. But now my assembler is refusing to pull the car apart. Every time I mention it, he just bursts into tears. I’m not getting much sympathy from my significant other. I guess it’s just a garage queen, so who’d ares if it doesn’t work. Right? |

Nooooo, it needs to be purfect! I fixed mine with the help of some really good You Tube vids. Apparently the usual culprit is the CV joints in the two drive couplings to the gearbox and transfer box. It’s not made clear in the instructions but the joints need to be all aligned the same initially. In my case I think I dislodged the gear wheel when I was decoupling the drive shafts. All running silky smooth now.

Interestingly there was actually an error in the manual for the construction of the drive line in regards to u-joint alignment.

Yes, that was the problem I had. I found a similar video so I was able to sort it but the video you posted is much better in explaining the problem and the solution. While the instructions supplied with the kit are very good there are also some very good videos out there too. Probably some of those guys need to get out more!

Can I suggest, with the benefit of hindsight, that you fit the wheels somewhere around stage 365, before fitting seats and bodywork, and try out the transmission in all its modes? This might avoid having to do a lot of dismantling to get back into the drive train to sort out any issues.
But then you may already be planning to do this....... |
