There is/was a massive debate on another LR forum roughly 4 years ago about these.
The result being a couple of us (myself included) got given these, had them installed and our trucks run up on a Dyno. General perception before and after the test, snake oil. Nick 2.2 110 Tipper |

I try and keep this in mind when looking at stuff (add-ons, etc.);
If it really was that much better, wouldn't LR have been installing them at the factory? Despite the sparseness and simplicity of the vehicles we choose to drive, LR/RR do spend a significant amount of money on R&D / testing. my 2p |

You're 'avin' a laugh? Definately not or they'd all be exiting the factory with remaps, snorkels, spotlights, working lights and the other remaining multitude of extras as standard and they'd be £15-£20K more expensive! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

I realize that they aren't the model of reliability upon exiting the factory floor- but they have on them exactly what they need to cover a huge range of real-world scenarios. Which is why they don't come with remaps & snorkels; but are available as options for those that do need/want them. BUT, these things aren't required as standard to make the wheels turn. Which is the point I was making. And if they did come equipped with all the extras available as standard; the Defender would surely qualify as one of the most over-equipped / over-priced / under-utilized vehicles available. And, would probably be even less reliable than at present. |

To put this into perspective - things such as RAIs, spotlights etc are not going to be required or wanted by everyone who buys a Landrover. What Landrover, and other manufacturers, do is spent a significant amount of time and money on research to come up with the best all round package for the purpose the vehicle is sold for. One example of this is suspension - the standard Defender is more capable than most, if not all, of the competition off-road and perfectly adequate for a dual purpose vehicle on the road. Many people may want to change the tyres, wheels, springs and shocks etc either to suit a specific purpose or change the looks (I'll refrain from using the word improve ). That doesn't mean Landrover got it wrong - just that some people feel the need to personalise it. Landrover do offer many options such as heavy duty suspension, RAIs etc so that the customer can only pay for what they need. In the same manner a number of trim options are available so that someone who wants a base spec gets it and doesn't have to pay for carpets, air-con, leather seats etc. What they could do to improve things though is fit a galvanised chassis and bulkhead as standard.
