France 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 DCPU Corris Grey
Sprayed oil in engine bay around/under VCV
Any thoughts where this is coming from? The bulk of the oil is BELOW the VCV. In the area of the red circle on the diagram below. Any particular pipe or seal that might have given up the ghost?

Be interested to find out. Mine has always been like that. I think previously someone suggested it could be from the vac pump 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Unlikely to be the vac pump unless the underside of the bonnet is covered in oil. It is more likely that it is blowing out the the induction system somewhere, so I'd check the hoses from the intercooler to the manifold as well as all manifold fittings as a first step.

If you really want a shock, look at the gunge inside the inlet manifold (then put a catch can on the shopping list)

Mine was always covered in oil on this side of the block...

I don't know 100% for sure what was causing it but it was either injector seals or inlet manifold gaskets or both.

When I did the injector seals in September I also removed the inlet manifold to pressure test the cylinders. I reassembled with all new seals and gaskets, degreased the block and it has remained clean since then.

When the injector seals are gone, oil pools on the rocker cover and runs down the block so could be this.
Or as blackwolf says, could be oily vapours blowing by the inlet manifold gaskets. > 110 XS Double Cab
