A good look inside an expired B58. Anyone know what the logic is for putting the timing gear at the gearbox end? Surely doesn’t make for easy maintenance in the future.

If the reason is indeed weight distribution, then I would say the negatives outweigh the positives in the Grenadier’s application. In the Supra it make more sense. I know they are supposed to be fit for life, but 10, 15 years down the line it’s likely become an (expensive) maintenance item that the home/bush mechanic will find an unnecessary challenge. BMW have form for timing chain problems in several of their recent engines. As a minimum, long term owners wanting peace of mind are going to have to adopt a regime of early oil changes with finest quality lube I reckon. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
