Took the opportunity to do some much needed cosmetic work to the truck. Side steps, roof bars, a bar, bumper and other bits off to the powder coater. Some paint touched up and new rear shock bushes. Hope to get the powder coated bit back tomorrow and get it back together. Couple of photos for the recoerd

Bit more cosmetic tidying. Van side panel was a bit marked and scratched so scuffed it masked it painted and clear coated. It’s a bit orange peely at the minute but a wet sand and polish will shine that up.

Whose paint and clear coat do you use? I’ve really been struggling to get a reasonable finish from rattle cans recently.

Click image to enlarge Locally sourced. The clear coat is expensive at about £11 a can but very good. |

All powder coated parts back on and a spare set of side steps finished to be put away.
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The ones on the 110 are galvanised as purchased from a forum member and then powder coated. The set that came off were only painted a year ago and are knackered. One is free to a good home as it is usable the other has a fist sized hole in it Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge And in other news I’ve ordered a new xs d250 90 for the Mrs. |

Took a trip to the lakes yesterday and on arrival touched the brakes as I entered the car park. A grinding noise greeted me. Drove the eighty or so miles home only touching the brakes twice. Picked up new front and rear pads today and will fit tomorrow. It’s 26k miles since pads and discs were changed so I’m thinking discs will be ok but front pads will need doing and rears maybe. Hadn’t realised I had driven so far since the last change.

Needed to complete a few bits recently. New rear pads, oil and filters at 111500. While changing the air filter I removed the “vortex” piece from the air box and was pleasantly surprised by the result. I’ve fitted a double din dash and Panasonic head unit. I’ve used a mudstuff usb extension for apple car play and I’m well impressed. Several bulbs in the dash needed replacing including the clock so I now can see what’s what on the dash. The rear camera is a £5 Jobby of eBay and set in the rear cross member so I can see the tow bar for hitching up. I turned a little bezel to set it in.

Being able to see behind the van back is a revelation. I can’t see out of the window as I have a big dog box in the back. The camera is good enough quality but could be better. Night vision however is excellent. Having nav, phone, music, radio all is one place is much easier. Good luck with the search for the iPod they are becoming a retro bit of kit

Today my truck attracted some unwanted but not really unwelcome attention. On my journey to work I pass a large lay-by in quite a rural location but very close to j27 of the m6.
Lancs rural crime unit and roads policing units had a checkpoint set up. They were checking vans lorries and me for stolen machinery, plant and—- land rovers. The truck was checked over properly and all numbers checked to my name, address etc They seemed to know where to look but I did advise them to check the plates on the clutch pedal box and dash match the stamp on the chassis in future checks. It’s good to know they are trying but how effective was the exercise. There is a crew stealing land rovers locally and many know what they drive (blue fiesta st) and what routes they use but they don’t seem to be able to get a grip of these scum. |

Today I fitted a full set of Gwynn Lewis mud shields and mud flap brackets. A job I have been meaning to do for about two years and should have done long ago. With this simple mod exposed areas of the chassis are now protected permanently. It was dark when finishing so will add so pics for the record tomorrow.
