1994 Defender 90 300 TDi Anti-freeze / Coolant type colour?
Evening all and seasons greetings!

OK, just flushed and changed my coolant.

Went to my local Landy specialist just to double check the correct type and he gave me 5 ltrs of 5 year life red which I've duely installed ...

However: Just noticed on a couple of Youtube video's on coolant replacement they've are using green and make no reference to RED??

I'm aware that one type is NOT good for the aluminium engines but which one is it please??

Please check the manual for your engine (is yours the 300tdi?).

I recently did mine and I used the blue, 2 year stuff which I think is ethylene glycol based. I believe this is for the 300tdi - but please check the manual as I don't have thar or my empty antifreeze container to hand!!

Try a search on here for 300tdi coolant as people far more knowledgeable than me can give better advice and reasoning.

Is yours OAT type, as I think that may be the wrong one - but please check. I know I would have preferred a 5 year life span due to my low mileage, but I had to go for the 2 year as that was the stuff specified for the 300tdi.

It will be an arse if the "specialist " has sold you the wrong type!

The NAPA Longlife Red is an OAT type solution but it's also Ethylene glycol based. It's billed as a universal coolant and the Opie website describes it as suitable for engines of ferrous or aluminium construction, so looks like your specialist is right:

Thanks for your input Mick, yes I've a 1994 TDi300 and was slightly concerned because there are a lot of threads on various forums and some contradict each other.

Having not had this one long and my last was 11+ years ago I'm finding my way around again Smile

Thanks very much Darren - GREATLY appreciated.

I completely forgot about "Opie oils" website who I got my engine oil from and the "Napa-oil" website link is spot on, just downloaded the .PDF file for the Napa red and more than happy now Very Happy
