Thanks Simon. That looks pretty decent. Considering a double din conversion soon so have to do a bit of dash cutting for the auxiliary switches. This won’t be too much extra.
Where have people mounted this type of thing? |

An ultra guage will give you outside temperature from air intake sensor. Just plug into obd port. Seems pretty accurate.

I went for a bog standard panel mount Ebay special fitted into my Raptor console.
Cheap, very accurate and having been fitted for 8-years totally reliable (similar units still look to be available). Sensor is mounted in a sheltered location under the front wing below the headlight so that way it doesn't pick up any engine generated heat. I have the CheckTemp, very good.
Mounted in centre dash lower left as mine doesn’t have adjustable headlight height switch. Sensor under the front wing right at the front, between wheel arch and wing inside a piece of foam. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

I have one similar to Litch but mine is a round display and I mounted the sensor in the mirror arm

Same as mine, tip of the sensor is just visible if you look up from below. ONE LIFE, GET IT! |

I’ve looked at those ultra gauges before. Pretty impressive….. but I don’t think it has inside temp. Am I right? |

And the cheapo eBay specials are also an option. There are some that show both inside and outside temps.
Thanks for the replies. |

I have always used the back of the hand on the driver door window for outside temperature assessment.
Inside temperature I utilise the basic skills given to me by genetics, if I’m cold turn heating up if hot turn down. Keep it simple 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper |

I have a few of these (10€ each) and for the Defender I swapped the hygrometer's black case over to the red/black thermometer. Sticks with velcro, has a button battery that lasts a long time. Stores min/max until you reset the values.
The position is so that I can read it when I tilt my head slightly. I don't want to see it all the time. I routed the cable along the glove box down the A pillar and the sensor dangles outside under the sill. Not a perfect position but ok for me. https://www.tfa-dostmann.de/en/product/dig...x-30-1043/ https://www.tfa-dostmann.de/en/product/dig...x-30-5026/ Click image to enlarge |

Do I NEED to know outside or inside temps? No. Would I like to know just for curiosity… yes. A bit like everything else on the vehicle. There’s not that much that is really needed. |
