The Puma chassis isn't supposed to be different. The difference you've noted is just typical of the tolerance in this and other areas and is nothing to worry about. I'd say a Defenders chassis is more a case of intolerances....

Out of curiosity, I measured MY88 chassis, 3cm further front of the front crossmember, and measured it at 635mm
However my 90 came with 1 washer on left side, between bulkhead and its outrigger, and 2 washer on the right side from the factory. Measuring between bulkhead outrigger and tubular tub outrigger confirmed the need of the extra washer on the right side. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Hi there!
Bumping this thread as we managed to reweld Dixon's mounts to the Puma chassis. Happy to report that everything is lining up properly! The TD5 engine is in, some adaptation work required for the radiator mounts but apart from that, all good. Many thanks for everyone's help |

You have Tdci (2.4 variant I think, hard to tell from the picture) chassis and mounts and they’re not the same as Td5 mounts they a different shape and profile. Just did this conversion today and I’ve done it many times. The gearbox mounts are different too.
I set the chassis up level and then set each mount with a magnetic clamp at 4 degrees with an electronic inclinometer tack each one on and test fit. Last edited by NickMc on 16th Dec 2021 11:21pm. Edited 2 times in total |

They are different in lots of little ways. Even the 2.4 and 2.2 have differences. |

On a 2.4 and 2.2 90, the handbrake is hanging lower than the bottom of the chassis rail, where as on a Td5 90, you cannot see the handbrake drum when viewing from the side of the chassis. Transfer box mountings look identical, so I suspect it is a matter of the chassis TC mounting brackets welded lower on the later Defenders 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I'm sure they are but I doubt that a 10mm difference in the distance between the chassis rails is one of them. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |
