Guys can I ask for a bit of guidance. I've a 2005 TD5 Defender manual and I love the car, but unfortunately I've osteoarthritis which is slowly starting to take it toll. I've limited funds but would love to convert the car to auto so I don't end up having to let it go. I work at cars (probably the reason i took the condition ) so would be keen to do a conversion myself while I still can. Could you recommend the best route to take as in the bits I'd need to get hold of to do the conversion. The cars been Alive tuned so my thinking is that the power loss wouldn't be as bad as normal.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. 05 Alive tuned TD5 110 Defender 73 Fiat 500 F 53 Massey Ferguson TVO 92 Kawasaki ZZR 600 97 Ferrari 456GT www.maranellohouse.com |

Thanks James. I'll look into that.
After reading through the thread I got wondering if I was to buy a Disco 2 TD5 or a P38 would I be able to use all/most of the parts from those to carry out the conversion. 05 Alive tuned TD5 110 Defender 73 Fiat 500 F 53 Massey Ferguson TVO 92 Kawasaki ZZR 600 97 Ferrari 456GT www.maranellohouse.com |

My question is : can i make the red lamps on the stick of disco ii to turn on in each gear separetely as in picture? Can i connect the mode button to the compushift as an extra calibration settings(for example towing, or high way, sport ?) |

On my Puma 2.2 90 I bit the bullet and had the JE 6 speed transit auto box installed. I really did it so my wife could drive the car. She just couldn't get the hang of overcoming the gate into reverse gear on the manual 6 speed box and the clutch pedal was way to heavy for her.
My thoughts after about 2000 road miles are that the conversion has done wonders for the driveability of the car. The power lag that occurred with the manual box as I shifted up between gears made progress sluggish and encouraged me to stay in lower gears. The car's now always in the right gear and the mild remap that JE does with the conversion has made nipping avross busy roundabouts a doddle. I'm sure forumites with more experience will advise other ways to improve the driveability of the Puma but for me the JE conversion was a simple, if very expensive, fix. |

If anyone can give the engine RPM at say 50 60 and 70 mph on an Ashcroft TDCI conversion that would be really appreciated.
Thanks! |

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply. Surprised to see auto box is slightly lower rpm to speed than 6sp manual. I run 265/75/16 tyres so I guess marginally more speed to rpm. Is it possible to test drive your vehicle or do you know of anyone in the Sussex area that is willing to allow test drives? I am keen to have a drive before committing to an order. I often tow 3.5t and need to satisfy that auto box will get the same/similar performance from the vehicle. Don't particularly wish to do any remaps or mods to engine and always drive steady in any case - I rarely ever go up to 70mph or hit more than 2500rpm shifting. Do you still supply the Compushift screen to change shift patterns and if so is it included in the conversion kit cost? Can you also confirm your lead times for supply and fitment at your premises? Many thanks, John |
