Low voltage at reverse light
A bit of a puzzle this one.
I seem to be getting only 7v at the rear reversing light. 110 2014.
Never noticed this before but after fitting a reverse camera that turns on when in reverse it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
I'm assuming it's an earth but no idea where to check.
Could it also be the reverse switch.
Anyone any ideas on the best way to do a bit of fault finding as it's quite annoying..

I am assuming you measured 7V across the bulb...

To be able to confirm if it is an earth issue or not, find a good earth point (or if you are unsure, run a wire directly to the battery negative trrminal) and with ignition on and in reverse, measure the voltage on both sides of the bulb.

If one side is 7v and other side is 0V, then you have a supply issue.
If one side is 12v and other side is 5V, then you have a ground issue. Note that actual voltages you measure depends on battery state, but you get the idea.

It’s known for the tdci reverse light switches to play up, and that would be worth considering.

Get underneath unplug reverse switch, bridge the terminals, does light work? Then test switch for continuity

Bought a genuine reverse switch and while doing some soundproofing took off the cover under the cubby box.
Turns out that there was a plug above the gear box that had worked itself loose. Not really sure what it does but wonderfully when I plugged it back in the camera started working. 🙈
Turns out it wasn’t the reverse switch. But something far simpler. For once…
