Valuation for insurance
I have owned my 110 for over 6 years now and its occurring to me I probably need to insure it for an agreed value.. Over the years I Have spent hours doing mods to it..

I do have the mods listed on the insurance however I doubt on a worse case scenario I will find another for the price they would pay me?

Can people of this good forum help me out as we all know prices are all over the place. I just think a rough idea would be useful to know? I'm not looing to sell its a pampered truck now with the use of other cars I'm lucky enough to enjoy.

Yes, that vehicle should be on agreed value as a priority. I would happily put money on it that it is worth many thousands of pounds more than book value.

Insurance valuation seems to be a very arbitrary procedure. It depends which company you approach and how their agreed valuation team (who are a law unto themselves and don't demean themselves by speaking to mere customers) see your particular vehicle.

Yours looks very tidy and has a good spec. Whilst some of what you list won't actually increase the value, it does make it more desirable and shows that it is a well-looked-after vehicle.

I would do your own research and try and identify similar condition & spec vehicles advertised for sale.

Once you have decided on a value that you think you could get a replacement for, and that you would be OK with in the event that you did need to make a claim, then take a really good, comprehensive, set of pictures (don't be shy about sending lots more than the ones required) and send them in. Choosing a company that knows about/specialises in Land Rovers is obviously to be preferred.

The insurers won't value it higher than you have requested and, once you've had a valuation, it is difficult to get it increased (by the same company) unless you do something significant to improve the vehicle, or if it it rises slightly in line with the market. So go in on the high side rather than low - the worst that can happen is that they offer you a lower valuation than requested.

Once they have made their decision, the only way you will possibly get it altered is to pay for an independent valuation from an approved valuer.

Once your valuation is agreed be prepared to start the renewal process much earlier than usual in order that you can get the valuation re-agreed before expiry. Otherwise, you may revert to market value whilst they go through the process of agreeing again.

Good luck.

Hello

Some good points, I'm aware that if they open the glasses / Parkers guide (is that still a thing) then the valuation would be nothing look compared to actual trucks for sale.

I do now and again look at other Defenders (don't we all) on ebay / autotrader but prices vary maybe £10k for what seems similar spec?

Even the classifieds on here, there is a USW similar miles / age but not spec so do compare with similar where can.

Problem we would have is a buying one anyway and then adding all the kit.. I love it though its become part of the family Thumbs Up

Maybe worth speaking to a couple of dealers to see how they would price it and maybe one of the online price companies - motorway / WBAC etc? 1999 Defender TD5 110

^ interesting I know WBAC tend to value on a std car...

which is fine and I know the extras will never get back the cost I accept that, but do make imho the car more desirable. yet still fairly std looking.

I'm pretty sure wbac will just value it as a 110 SW XS? I guess that's a guide.. and a good start Thumbs Up

The markets very odd at the minute but I would rather think about this and get it sorted as each year pass and I change more things Very Happy

Its a start, even to just get an idea.

When my 110 was in the local garage getting sorted the chap from a indy car dealership spotted (I got it around 8 years ago) So I intend on popping in to see him and how he values it now. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Most insurers generally ask for a series of photographs some ask for a written report which most Land Rovers clubs will do for a fee.

Also, you can ask an independent LR garage to give you a report like this one. Be warned though an inspection report like the one below will cost in the region of £150.00 but it will last for three years.
