Clutch grinding noise
Had a bit of a nightmare getting home this evening, changing down from 3rd to 2nd the clutch wouldn’t engage and just made a grinding noise, after stopping I managed to get it into 1st then 2nd etc with a low amount of grinding noise at low speeds got into 3rd but couldn’t change back down to 2nd. Not sure if the clutch has gone or what’s going on. When I’ve had a clutch go in the past it was stuck in that gear but this seems to change but it’s almost like the clutch isn’t fully disengaging when the pedal is down. It’s not low on fluid but other than that I’ve got no idea where to start. It’s a 2011 2.4 90. Any help is very much appreciated

When mine did this it was a clutch spring touching the pressure plate

i had exactly the same symptoms on our previous 2.4 110, the clutch springs had sprung so had to be replaced - got it home with a bit of careful driving and then got the main dealership to replace the clutch - all done in 4 hrs with me waiting ! Thumbs Up

Now got to have the clutch in the 2.2 changed as its not behaving its self ... ho hum ! Big Cry Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

Thanks for the replies I’d hoped it was going to be something a bit easier but have just bitten the bullet and ordered a new one from lof with a new output shaft for good measure. Hopefully it’ll be cured after that

This is what mine did, I had to admit defeat in the end that the Master Cylinder wasn’t going to cure it, but, all the same was not a bad thing to be replaced.
Though I had very low fluid as well, I’m tending to think it’s a clutch spring issue with mine as well.

So far I fitted a new Genuine MC myself.
That was fun!
Bled it.
I’ve got the updated slave, valve and adaptor ready to go in Gen LR.

I’m waiting currently on the Transit 4x4 clutch to arrive, which is heading my way.

I’m going to get the flywheel in case and the same with the intermediate shaft in case they are needed.

Factory LR Clutch went on mine at 40k, the second updated genuine one went at (88k 48k later which I had better hopes for. I’m not that impressed with them hence the swap to the Transit clutch this time. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
