Hi - I've done the same conversion. The air filter has a collar that goes around the neck and mounts to a bracket on the back of the engine using either a plain bolt/nut or cotton reel rubber buffer jobs.

That's a nice install Lodelaner.
I was reckoning on cutting and rewelding the filter to "straighten" it, but I see you have rotated yours, deffo stealing that idea! I guess you pick up on the engine lift bracket bolt holes? |

Thx for the kind comments. Yours looks good- I like the doors and wheels (my next 2 jobs).
Ah yes, using the kink in the air box inlet (from a flapper EFI) means the airflow meter clears the heater box and you don’t need a complex up and down air intake pipe from a NAS. Ta muchly, useful info, a lot simpler than my original plan!
I like simple I have had a look at your 90 in your gallery, it is sooo nice, ironically I want to go with Wolf's and 235's ultimately. It came with the 265 BFg's on eight spokes so swopped them to the freestyles for a sort of NAS/50th look. Also plan to de-chequer plate it over time. |

Bracket is one shown below. NLA at JLR and only on V8 engined 50th Anniversary vehicles in this country.

Well finally got this fitted. big alloy plate bolted to the engine lift plate holes.
Click image to enlarge Still a fair bit of tidying but runs a lot nicer and quieter. Fast tickover to start with until I found the throttle cable had been adjusted up to "correct" a low tickover caused by the K&N Will connect up the laptop again soon and see how things look now. |

I bought mine with a K&N already fitted. Whats the main benefit of switching back to a RRC intake?

Probably not worth switching back.
They do create more induction noise (allegedly), can contaminate the MAF / hotwire and need oiling. I just junked one off my D2 and went back to paper. JB @Lodelaner Instagram Youtube greenlaning and other LR related content |

Fair enough, I've just cleaned and re oiled this one but it seems to have dried out quickly with all the heat generated under the bonnet.

In the case of mine the engine hadn't been set up properly for it, runs much nicer now and noticeably quieter.
Maybe slightly less powerful but a tweaked 3.9 in a soft top 90 still is plenty zippy |

The oil from the K&N gets inducted as a mist, coats the hotwire sensor and degrades it's performance.
Also a K&N is a very poor filter, better off retaining the paper element and keeping the inside of the engine grit free. The "performance" benefits of the K&N are negligible. |

Yep, I've umm'd and ah'd over K&N filters for decades with a multitude of vehicles and never gone down that route.
This was on when I bought it. It was clogged up and very dirty. I cleaned and re oiled. Is it possible the new oil has got onto the wire on the MAF and causing the problem? Bit delicate to clean the wires I believe even with carb cleaner? |
