Marking the territory
So I know I have a small leak from the transfer case (been there over a year)

Now I have it marking a little further forward. At first glance looks like rear main seal

But then looking further up it seams to be coming from above.

What’s up behind the engine at that part? All I know of is the egr, but would of thought that would not leak oil?

Only noticed as changed the panhard rod today and noticed the rear rod that connects the front wheels needs doing, it really is the car that keeps giving. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details

I’ve been here! I’ll find a link to my leak and let stick it is below. Was the seal from the crank case to the spacer block bit.

The rear main seal?

Mine looks to be coming from above the bell housing. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

Mine looked the same. It wasn’t the crank seal, it was the crank case seal and the oil was migrating out along that joint which made it look like it was coming from above. The only other things above are the EGR as you say and also the vacuum pump on the 2.2.

See half way down this page for my problem: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic78124...p;start=15

I see what you mean col, it’s just from what I can see at present it’s oily up higher. I’ll attempt to clean it off and have to observe where it’s coming from. It’s not using oil so not a immediate rush, did think it could of been from last oil change also, not cleaned up and splattered around Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.
