I like the idea - price would be a big factor though. John

I am sure that someone will correct me but i am not sure that stainless steel for the recovery points is a good idea as i am sure that stainless steal does not have the same tensile strength as plain steel.
Hence the aluminium guards on the market that have built in recovery eyes have steel recovery points that are in turn bolted to the chassis, the main plate then bolts to that. Good idea in terms of the main plate in terms of looks - price might be the killer compared to what is available on the market. Good to see someone thinking of something new Good luck Mark |

I'm pretty sure that you're right, Mark, Stainless is, for want of a more technical description, more brittle than regular steel and probably not ideal for this application unless significantly over-engineered.
For the same reason, I'm always surprised when I hear folks talk of stainless tow bar bolts. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |

Not trying to on anyone but this has been done already
http://www.entreq.de/products/protection/u...plate.html Yes it is cheap at £370 I'll have 2. But from my experience with entreq there gear is well designed and built. Now you may be able to make some cheaper ones but don't forget your not trying to cover the cost of running a business and utility bills if you buy the materials and do the work on your lunch break. Mark, There are many different grades of stainless steel so strengths vary but the norm is to use carbon steel for parts that need to be strong because it's cheaper. But remember all stainless steel will still rust in the end Russell 2011MY 110 XS USW Black |

Hi Luke, I would also be interested as I am looking at the moment. I have a nice clean and sparkling 90 if you want someone to test one out and do the photographs Click image to enlarge Mermoto |

Just my luck! I spent ages looking for one with a stainless blade, couldn't find anything I liked, and went and bought the SVX one. Glad I did now as I really like the look of it.
Good luck with the design of the drivers side support bracket. Some of them aren't particularly well thought out requiring the removal of the radiator to get one of the bolts out that need to be removed. The SVX one has a large hole in the bracket which simply allows the pre-existing bolt head to poke through it. Your picture above also reminds me that I've got a nearly new under ride protection bar and its spacer like that which need boxing up and putting on the bay. Pete |
